Buffy inwardly groaned when he glanced at her. Obviously, being a guy, she should have expected that. Buffy reached for the zipper of her jacket, pulling it up to her collarbone. Strike one. He gestured to the city and she nodded, glancing up. "Are you okay for a run?" if they moved quick they could be there in less than five minutes. But then again, they were already soaked and a little more wouldn't make much of a difference. Buffy just needed to let off some steam. She settled for a leisurely sort of jog, nothing a normal person couldn't keep up with. He didn't know what she could do yet, and she was determined to keep it that way ( ... )

.....fuck.

She started off first, and Dean had to catch up. It was not too hard. He never did soccer like Sammy, but he was in top-notch shape. Their father raise them up to be little warriors against the things that went bump in the night. A muscular body and fast legs were essential for the business if you did it full-time like the Winchesters. In no time, he caught up with her light jog, and she was impressive (naturally), running around in the rain with bare feet.

He slowed down, stopping behind her. Wiping his face -- wet, wet, wet -- he looked from crumbling apartment to crumbling apartment.

"That one," he smirked, pointing it out. "Race you there?"

"Oh, it's on."

Except she didn't exactly want him to know that she was a little less than human. Or a little more, depending on how you looked at it. She could always try to fake it, but she hadn't been 'normal' for so long and she didn't know what 'normal' was anymore. Except that he seemed to know who she was, as the Slayer. So she raced him, kicking her feet up, splashing.

He won.

Wait- what?

Buffy arrived at the door, panting. What the hell was going on? This type of run was nothing compared to the training Giles used to put her through. Maybe she was just out of practice- but that didn't make any sense either. She looked up, eyes gone wide and a little bit panicked. Her powers. There was a change in her, she just hadn't noticed it until now. Until she tried to use them. Buffy felt weak.

Trying to test this theory, she roundhouse kicked the exterior of the house, mostly on instinct. Heard a crunching that wasn't the wall, felt a shot of pain up her foot.

What the hell?

She was a hunter, so he kicked it up a notch. He wasn't going easy as the competitive spirit kicked in, and he started off. Sprinting across the cobblestone streets in the rain with blondie following hot on his heels. But, his inflated ego was going down as he realized something wasn't right when he crossed the finish line. Buffy came up, panting and puffing and looking worn down.

The girl was stronger than this. In every possible way -- she was like a fucking menace for everything dark and creepy. How -- oh. Rivelata. That magic...force field thing that prevented people from reaching their supernatural abilities.

Instinct kicked in as she kicked the door. He reached out, grabbing her arm and pulling her back. "Hold on a second. Woah -- calm down, it's only a race."

Shouldn't she be relieved? Isn't this what she'd always wanted- to be normal? To be just like all of the other girls, girls like Cordelia and Harmony who went through life worrying about exams and boys? She'd always wondered what life would be like if she wasn't the Slayer. Now Buffy was going to get a chance to find out.

She wasn't happy at all.

Because when the time came and someone wanted to hurt her- or worse, someone she cared about, Buffy wasn't going to be able to do anything. And that thought angered and scared her more than anything else. She wanted to kick something again, but Dean grabbed her arm and she whirled around to face him. "I'm not- I know. It was just a race."

He didn't get it. That wasn't what she was so upset about. "It's- I'm fine, it's nothing. Sorry about the door." she muttered, managing a neutral expression. She wasn't going to heap this on someone else, this was her problem and not anything someone she'd just met should have to worry about.
