He pulled the trigger. His gun responded loudly, followed by a clashing echo. Balthier had been willing to let Travis play his game, to a point. He knew it was in the young man's blood to fight, that when challenged he couldn't refuse. The rules of Travis's world were strange- but Balthier could understand, to a point. Long had that point been passed. He had watched the woman take sick enjoyment in breaking Travis's body. Stayed silent. Avoided interfering and damaging his companion's pride, but enough was enough. Balthier had sworn he wouldn't lose another, and if Balthier kept his word to anyone- he kept it to himself.
A spray of blood, as the bullet tore through the womans back and out her chest. He felt no guilt as she slumped forward onto Travis, her pink dress stained red. The woman was no hume, she was a monster- and he had dispatched her as he would any creature of violence.
A wisp of smoke danced from the tip of his rifle, light gleaming down the ornate barrel.
He'd liked to think that when he died, it would be some awesome, out with a bang sort of deal. He hadn't pictured it like this - straddled by a girl, broken and defenseless as she pummeled him. His face would probably look like one of those men, his skin already bruised from her previous assaults.
He let his eyes close, bracing himself for what he could only hope would be the final blow.
As he waited, there was a deafening bang that sounded like gunfire, and a weight slid heavily onto his aching chest. He could barely breathe, he could barely think...
He didn't want to think he was safe. He half expected this to be like her false tears... and for the bat to collide with his face any minute.
He made no effort to move, keeping silent, happy if only to be living for a little bit longer.
Her grip tightened on the back as she poised to strike, the bullet hitting her hard. She blinked dumbly for a moment, both her face and his splattered in blood, that was coming from the wrong body. This... wasn't how it was supposed to happen.
She fell forward, aided by the power of the shot, her weapon coming down harmlessly somewhere next to Travis' head, her life extinguished before she landed.
"Travis. Get up." Balthier waited a moment for his gun to cool, before reslinging it across his back. The woman wasn't going to get up, that much was for sure. However, they would have to dispose of the body.
Now that he was a Judge, he couldn't be leaving a trail of bodies behind him. It didn't bode well for advancements in his career, or reputation. "We have to make this disappear, and time isn't on our side."
A pause, before walking over to the man, and extending a hand for Travis to grasp.
