Dr. Erynn's Diagnosis... alaeia April 4 2003, 10:19:20 UTC
Remember all those pennies, crayons, and paint chips you used to eat as a kid? well, through the magic of warm wax, they had bound to your intestine and lived happily as part of your intestinal wall. Until now. An evil spirit (Bob, maybe?) has summoned them to come forth as an angry sith blob to wreak destruction on your insides, as he is jealous of your mad DDR skillz. Sucks to be you! :-D

Yea, from the sounds of it and all your practicing, your DDR skills have far surpassed mine. After whats happened these last few months my skills have really dropped where the highest level I'll play is 5... Ahh, I remember the good old days. We will still dance again over the summer after a brief period of re-training.

I didn't realize you were having digestive problems, too :( It doesn't sound like Crohn's, though. It does sound like UC, maybe. I hope for your sake it isn't. If you have any questions, feel free to ask your LJ Crohnie :) They'll probably want to give you a colonoscopy at some point. It sounds worse than it actually is. The worst part is not eating for so long before the test. Anyway, good luck! I hope they figure out what the problem is. I'm jealous of you getting to work at the game development company and play all of the cool new games.

Yea, it does seem like it could be what I've read about UC but it also seems like it could be 4-5 other things, and I've had diarrhea about 2/10 times in the last month, but I have been taking laxitives and metamucil... I've read about all of the 'oscopies' and I really don't care what they do at this point, I just want to 'know' what I have or don't have. My roommate has had that and the barium test done and he's survived ( ... )

Well, I hope for your sake that it's not UC. It would be good if it's something like IBS, because at least that doesn't damage your body. I've never had the barium enema, but I have had the small bowel follow through, where you drink the barium, and boy, did that suck.

I've had Crohn's since I was 16 - 8 years now. Hard to believe sometimes. But I'm sure that part of your depression is due to not knowing what's going on. I went through a lot before I was diagnosed. Everyone thought I was anorexic. When you do find out what it is, you'll feel relieved, no matter what they discover.

It is unusual for a person to know that many people in real life with IBD. Maybe it's more prevalent in this area due to our pollution.

Well, good luck, and keep us updated with what they find out.

The only thing I can think of that you could try (that you probably haven't already) is a vegetarian diet. I used to have terrible stomach problems until I became vegetarian. Most digestive problems are caused by meat too. Make sure you are getting the right amount of fiber and eating well balanced meals as well ;D Oh yeah and exercise might help too. And make sure you drink enough water! Hope you feel better soon!

Yea, I'm drinking plenty of water lately (Some 80 oz, which is like 10 glasses) and taking fiber supplements and the only meats that I'm eating are chicken and turkey. I would try even cutting those out, but I guess I'll just wait to see what my doctor has to say. It really doesn't feel like it has anything to do with my stomach though, the aching is lower.

Red meat is the most problematic of them all, so it is good that you are not eating that. When I say tummy or stomach... I am not very exact. My "stomach" problems were also lower, as in the intestines area. Funny how I use that word... I don't think I am alone though. Hope they figure out what the problem is!

Oh, Hi Katie... I can't say I'm feeling good yet, but I'm usually feeling slightly better than I was when I posted, and I've avoided anything serious, but they still don't have a concrete diagnosis yet. My doctor believed from my initial tests and symptoms that I had diverticulitus and I took a week and a half of anti-biotics, but it didn't seem to make a difference. From my internet research, the closest match is IBS and its entirely possible that it is that and strongly related to all the stress from this semester. If I don't have some bowel obstruction or a hernia... as those are really the only two other things that 'match'. (Though I'm still no expert) I'm going back next Tuesday to start on round 2 of testing.

Thanks though, I'll read your journal too! Though the light blue on pink looks like a painful combination for the eyes.
