Nozawa looked worriedly at Sanada. The other boy had been starring forlornly at the cracks on the wall since that morning and now he was wearing his shirt inside out. Nozawa leaned over to ask softly, “Sanada-kun?”

“Hmm?”

“Is there something wrong?”

“Hmm?”

Nozawa was about to ask another question when the door opened and Hasshi walked in with a stack of coloured papers and markers.

“I met Koyama-kun in the hallway,” Hasshi said mournfully, pushing the stack of papers at the one closer to him, who was Sanada. “Oi, Sanada?”

“Hmm?” Sanada asked, still looking at the ceiling.

Hashimoto turned to Nozawa, who shrugged helplessly in return. Hashimoto gasped, dropping all the papers and markers and reaching over to shake Sanada. “Oi, Sanada! Sanada! Are you all right? There’s nothing wrong with you right? Sana-“

Nozawa jumped over quickly, pushing Hasshi away from Sanada. “Hasshi!” he squeaked.

“But there’s something obviously wrong with him!” Hasshi exclaimed. “I’m going to go look for help!” he exclaimed, before running out of the room.

Nozawa sighed. He turned to Sanada and shook him a little, and the boy turned away from the wall to look up at him. “Hasshi left us with this,” he said, looking down at the papers and markers. “Give me a hand?”

“Oh,” Sanada said, sounding a little out of it still. “Okay.”

Nozawa pulled Sanada up and out through the door.

“Are you sure it’s not because he’s feeling unwell?” Goseki frowned.

“He could just be tired, you know,” Tottsu said.

“No! There’s something wrong with him! I know it!” Hasshi said. “What if it’s something terrible, some great big secret he’s not telling me and it’s going to be terrible because he always tells me everything and do you think he…”

Tsuka sighed and smacked Hasshi across the head. “Calm down, idiot.”

“No,” Kawai nodded, getting up from his seat and swishing his jacket back for added effect, but only succeeding in almost poking out Goseki’s eye. “Hasshi, you’re right. We must take this seriously.”

“Kawai,” Tottsu rolled his eyes.

“Come, let’s go ask what’s wrong with Sanada,” Kawai said, and nodding, Hasshi followed him out of the dressing room.

“Should we… stop them?” Goseki asked, biting his lip nervously.

Tottsu shook his head. “If anything blows up or catches fire, we’ll definitely be the first to know.”

“Sanada-kun?” Nozawa asked, as they were waiting for the boys from Hip Hop Jump to finish up with their Jr ni Q cards. “Is there something wrong? You should talk about it, maybe I can help.”

Sanada turned to Nozawa before looking down at his feet. “I don’t… I don’t know if it’s something that can be solved.”

Nozawa, excited that Sanada was even replying properly to his questions, jumped up to his full height and patted his chest. “No problem! Ask me anything, Sanada-kun!”

“Well,” Sanada frowned, leaning against the wall as a bunch of juniors ran past them. “I… well…”

Nozawa nodded, encouraging him to continue.

“There’s this person I like. And doyouthinkIshouldconfessbutI’mreallynervousaboutit,” Sanada said, and turned to Nozawa with hopeful looking eyes.

Nozawa blinked back. “Oh.”

Neither of them noticed Kyomoto Taiga in the doorway behind them, typing furiously into his cellphone.

“SPRING HAS COME!” Fujigaya yelled suddenly in the middle of the dressing room, causing Tamamori to almost fall off his seat and Miyata to make a quick save.

“What the…” Kitayama muttered. “What the hell, Fujigaya?”

Fujigaya chuckled and turned to Kitayama, wrapping an arm around Kitayama’s shoulder. “Hiro, do you remember a time when you were awkward and stupid but wanted to confess to the girl of your dreams?”

“I’d rather not rehash memories like that, but yes,” Kitayama frowned. “What the hell are you talking about?”

“Spring has come, my dear,” Fujigaya said dramatically, holding out his cellphone. It was a two page email from young Kyomoto Taiga, about how Sanada-kun was troubled with wanting to confess to a girl from school but not knowing how to do it. “I want to go help.”

“Oh no, wait,” Kitayama shook his head, laughing a little as he dragged Fujigaya back. “Let the boy figure it out himself! You’ll just make him embarrassed.”

“He is clearly in trouble, if not Kyomoto would not have mailed me about the problem. I must help him,” Fujigaya said with complete conviction as he walked out of the dressing room.

Kitayama turned back to Tamamori and Miyata, who were both shaking their heads. He sighed and nodded. “Okay, I’ll go make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid.”

“Go leader!” Miyata called as Kitayama followed Fujigaya out the room.

Nozawa held out a can of orange juice. “Here,” he said gently. “You should drink something.”

Sanada nodded. Koyama had looked worriedly at Sanada when they returned with the Jr ni Q cards, especially when the younger boy had pinned his own card to the bottom of the board (the only plus point about being in charge of the cards was how you could pin your own card in the most conspicuous place on the board).

Nozawa was thinking about how to broach the issue when Kawai and Hasshi suddenly appeared, taking the seats on both sides of Sanada leaving Nozawa sitting near the edge of the bench.

“Sanada-kun,” Kawai said grinning at the younger boy. “I heard you have a problem.”

Sanada frowned. “Eh?”

“Tell us, Sanada!” Hasshi said, shaking the boy again. “I brought Kawai-kun to help!”

“Hasshi!” Nozawa squeaked. “Why did you…”

“Sanada!” a voice called from the end of the hall, and Fujigaya strutted up to them with Kitayama following. He squished himself onto the bench in between Hasshi and Sanada, tossing his arm over Sanada’s shoulder. “I hear you have a problem.”

“Oh? No, why is…” Sanada stammered.

“Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. I could give you some good advice about this,” Fujigaya nodded. “First, we’ll have to think up of how you’re going to ask her out…”

“Ask her out?” Kawai asked, eyes shining in excitement. “Is that Sanada-kun’s problem?”

“Yea! He wants to confess to the girl he likes, doesn’t he?” Fujigaya grinned innocently. “Don’t worry; we’re here to help you!”

Nozawa squeaked and Sanada buried his face in his hands.

Twenty minutes later, Sanada was backed up against a corner with Fujigaya and Kawai talking above him.

“Why are you so negative?” Fujigaya frowned. Sanada shook his head and held his hands over his ears.

“Fujigaya-kun,” Nozawa said softly. “Maybe you shouldn’t have told him not to be too disappointed if he gets rejected…”

“But that’s the truth! Getting rejected is part and parcel of life, and one has to be reasonably prepared for…” Fujigaya let out a loud yelp when Kitayama smacked him on the head.

“See, this is where I’m the much better sempai,” Kawai grinned. “Right, Sanada-kun?” he grinned at the boy. “Looking the part is everything, and just in case you get to kiss her, you should also make sure your mouth is minty fresh and I know this great…”

Nozawa watched as Sanada backed further and further away from his overzealous sempai, and let out a loud yelp when Sanada’s hand grabbed the knob of the door behind him and ducked into the room closing the door with a loud bang.

“Sanada-kun?” Nozawa asked, pushing past the sempais and reaching for the door. It was locked. “Sanada-kun?” he asked again, a little more urgently.

Kitayama looked a little worried. “Maybe Sanada’s more worried about how to go about telling her his feelings. Why don’t we let him think about it, on his own?”

“But, Hiro, I can help him with that too!” Fujigaya insisted. Kitayama dragged him away anyway.

Kawai stayed put, thinking for a moment. “I have another idea. Hasshi, let’s go!”

* * *

“Shut up I’m not doing it,” Goseki said, starring at Kawai with his meanest, most serious look. However, the cause this time was too great for Kawai to be deterred, and he continued tugging on Goseki’s sleeve, half pulling him towards the cleaning supplies closet where Sanada had barricaded himself against everyone, even Nozawa, who was left outside helplessly knocking on the door.

“It’s for our kouhai! And you know Sanada definitely needs help in this department,” Kawai said, grinning.

“From you?” Goseki demanded.

When they got to the door, Nozawa gave them both pleading puppy dog eyed looks and Goseki realized this was why Kawai was so adamant about doing this. He sighed and resigned himself to his fate as Kawai started pounding at the door.

“Sanada-kun!’

“Go away!” was the muffled reply.

“Sanada-kun, don’t worry I’m not going to give you advice against sweaty palms this time,” Kawai called out, and Nozawa grimaced. “Seriously, Sanada-kun, I have the perfect idea,” he continued, before nudging Nozawa.

“Sanada-kun,” Nozawa said softly. “I think Kawai-kun really wants to help. Goseki-kun is here too.”

The door opened slowly, and Sanada poked his head out. Kawai grinned and turned to Goseki, and Goseki groaned inwardly and just willed this to be over as quickly as possible.

Kawai started by asking how the day was. Goseki replied, in his girliest voice, that he was all right and working hard for his exams. Nozawa’s jaw dropped when he realized what his two sempai were up to, and Sanada looked horrified, not at the conversation that was happening in front of him, but how accurate Kawai was in his impression of a very nervous, about-to-confess-to-the-girl-he-liked Sanada.

“Sanada-kun?” Goseki asked, keeping up the act but deciding that this play had gone on for long enough. “What did you ask me out for?”

“Kou-chan, did you know that your father was a thief?” Kawai continued.

All the boys waited in bated breath as Goseki gently asked, “Why is that so?”

“Because your father stole the stars and put them in your eyes.”

*BANG*

Nozawa winced.

“Sanada-kun!” Kawai looked offended as Goseki grabbed him by the collar and decided this was enough. “I was being completely serious!” he shouted as he was pulled away.

A pause. “I DON’T SOUND THAT CONSTIPATED!” came Sanada’s voice as Nozawa sighed heavily.

* * *

“Sanada-kun?” Nozawa knocked on the door lightly. “There’s no one here anymore. Kitayama-kun promised he’d keep Fujigaya-kun away, and Tsuka-kun is literally sitting on Kawai-kun so… will you please come out now?”

A short moment later, the door opened and Sanada stepped out. Nozawa put on his brightest grin.

“Sanada-kun,” Nozawa started. “Sanada-kun looks good in whatever he wears, and if you say what you need to say honestly, I’m sure she’ll accept your confession!”

“You really think so?” Sanada asked, looking hopeful again.

“Of course! Just say “I like you”, the way you’re most comfortable with,” Nozawa returned with his million watt smile. “I think Kawai-kun had a good idea; maybe you can try it out first… I can pretend to be her,” he said, standing in front of Sanada.

Sanada took a deep breath, shuffled his feet a few times before looking up at Nozawa. “Okay. Let’s try.”

“Sanada-kun,” Nozawa said, in his cutest voice. “What did you ask me out for?”

“I… I… I…” Sanada stammered before taking a deep breath and then- “I like you!”

Nozawa grinned. “Of course I…”

“SPRING HAS COME!” they heard behind them. They spun around to see Fujigaya hold up his arms in victory and Kawai, Kitayama and Goseki starring at them in wonder. “It wasn’t a girl after all!” Fujigaya laughed, running over to give both of them a big hug.

Hasshi burst into tears. “It’s such a happy ending!”

Sanada turned to Nozawa, who just sighed again.
