Quick update - amazing how less than 5 minutes and a pair of pliers can reduce a formerly unappealing necklace into piles of very usable components.  Not going to reclose the opened links since the fake gold alloy might not hold up well to multiple stresses (there's already signs of cracking in some of the joints due to torqueing).
