Quite a few of the quibbles seem to be with the fact that some people want to make Pride at least partially family friendly. One comment struck me. While Mardi Gras may be carnivalesque, it's still regulated. The boobs, beads and bountiful beer are restricted to a smaller area of the larger celebration.
Perhaps everyone can be happy as time goes by. After all, isn't being gay and "boring" a valid lifestyle choice as well? I don't consider it a denial of identity or other's identities if you just want someplace you can take your kids and parents to celebrate along with you.
As for myself, I prefer my carnivalesque to be completely devoid of any wholesomeness, especially in intent. :-)
