PrologueChapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3
For the last few days, Micky had been acting weird around me. He seems to be watching the people around us more. Was there something that he found out that we didn’t know about? He even gave the death stare to some when they get too close to us or me? He was also trying extra hard to be charming to me, hanging on to my every word, smiling at me often, trying to please me in little ways. Somehow I could picture Changmin having said or done something to make him act this way.
I cornered Changmin and asked him about it but he just shrugged saying that Micky was just trying to woo me in his own way. Well, I would have believed him if I was a three year old. I have a suspicion that the Jaeho couple was somehow onto this too from the guilty looks they have when I asked Changmin about it. Added to all this was the fact that Hyukjae was coming to Korea soon. I don’t know how he would react when he knows about this?
“Kim Junsu, prepare to be thrashed today.” A voice rang out when we were at the cafeteria having our lunch.
“Says who?” I questioned, not even turning to look at the owner of the voice. It was as familiar as my own. I knew it was Hyukjae without turning around, he reached Korea yesterday and I knew he would be in school today.
“Said me.” His eyes twinkling with mischief as he came around to lounge at our table. He wouldn’t be Hyukjae if he didn’t do anything like this. It’s just like him.
“That will never happen in this lifetime, you loser.” I retorted, reverting to my role as a student, he could be such a kid at times. Sometimes I wondered why we were even best friends.
“I’m so getting my revenge today you big assed.” Hyukjae answered, rubbing his hands in glee. That was a low blow, that jackass, he knows I hate it when people comments on my rear.
"What are we playing this time?" I asked him, ready for his challenge, he so asked for it and I ‘m going to gloat when I win which I usually do.
“Hey, who are you calling a big assed, guys, how can you stand by and let this guy insult Junsu?” Micky stood up from his seat, saying that to the rest of the guys, defending me from Hyukjae. I stared in astonishment, wondering what happened to the friendly and smiling Micky I knew? He was angry for me? The rest of the guys ignored us since this happens all the time with Hyukjae and me together. Changmin as usual was deeply engrossed with his food and Yunho and Jaejoong were too busy feeding each other to take notice of this sudden intrusion.
“Hyung, don’t get involved.” Changmin said shaking his head and tugging on Micky’s arm to get him to sit down. He was smart enough to know not to get involved with us when we are like that. He has been caught once too many times in between and had suffered.
“Su, what have you been doing behind my back, when did you find yourself a new boyfriend?” Hyukjae continued acting his role as a jealous friend, glaring at Micky in distaste. I rolled my eyes at his “acting”. The idiot winked at me.
A fleet of emotions went over Micky’s face when he heard the statement, his face showed anger first then quickly turned to dismay, the change was fast. I wondered what he was thinking about so intently that he had not noticed us staring at him. He slumped down dejected into his seat at that statement.
“So are you dumping me for him?” Hyukjae turned to look at me angrily, though I could see the twinkle in those eyes. I knew him long enough to know when he was really angry and when he was pretending and I could tell he was finding this fun.
“Who the hell are you?” Micky finally asked in exasperation, not understanding the situation at all. He looked at Hyukjae when he was asking the question, not daring to look at me.
“Ha ha, Eunhyuk, it’s not what you think. He’s just a friend.” I finally spoke up, putting a stop to everything. I saw the sad and forlorn look that came onto Micky’s face when he heard what I said. He must have misinterpreted what I had said.
“Micky, I like you to meet my best friend, Eunhyuk.” I introduced the two of them. I could see a smile at the corner of Micky’s lips when he heard the words. He tried not to grin too widely at that remark though he wasn’t having much success. The silly boy must have thought Hyukjae was my boyfriend when he started acting like that and he was relieved that I told him otherwise. I hid a smile when I saw him trying to control his grin.
“Ah. So this is the guy you were telling me about, Su?” Hyukjae looked Micky up and down as he was saying this, assessing him.
“Yes. So what do you think of him?” I asked him.
“So where did you find this guy?” He asked instead of answering my question.
“A… Changmin tried to say but was cut off immediately by me.
“Don’t even start.” I warned him.
“He looks and acts like an idiot. You have lousy taste.” Hyukjae said.
“Eunhyuk, don’t be rude.” I scolded him, using the name he’s supposed to use for this case, I knew he didn’t want to say anything here and was just joking but Micky might take offense at what he said. I didn’t want them to get off on a wrong foot so fast.
“Micky, I’m sorry, he’s like that, he don’t mean anything, please don’t take this to heart.” I said, apologizing for my best friend’s rude behaviour. I could tell Micky was unhappy and hurt at Hyukjae’s comments.
“No, of course not. I’m not so petty.” Micky said, trying to be gracious when he has just been insulted.
“Yeah, hyung, Eunhyuk hyung is always like that, don’t mind him. He’s just jealous that Junsu hyung has found another friend.” Changmin said. Micky looked at Changmin gratefully when he said those words.
“Just sit down already Eunhyuk, we know you missed Su.” Yunho said to Hyukjae, he must be irritated by his behaviour already.
“Ah, Yunho, same as ever, I see. So that’s the new boyfriend? I didn't know you swing for the other side but he’s sure prettier than most guys.” Eunhyuk said cheekily, getting back at Yunho easily, coming to sit down next to me.
We were not surprised to see Jaejoong blushing red since he’s usually shy around most people but the same shade of colour was also creeping onto Yunho’s face as well. They did not denied nor admit it.
“Ha ha, hyung, that’s the first time I seen you blushing like that.” I said, laughing loudly in delight, amused by Yunho's embarrassment, where have the serious Interpol agent gone?
“Ok. Stop all this nonsense now and eat your lunch.” Yunho barked out, silencing any more comments.
“Is everything all right?” I whispered to Hyukjae as he sat down beside me. We chatted a while about the developments of the case back in the States. I must have forgotten about Micky besides me till I heard Changmin talking to him. I stole a glance at him and he seems sad.
I turned around and asked him “Are you ok, Micky? You seem so quiet. Is something bothering you?”
“No, I’m fine. Don’t worry about it.” Micky said. I stared at him, wondering why he was lying to me; anyone could see that there was something upsetting him. I decided not to press him.
“Hyung is just upset that you’re not paying attention to him, you are only talking to Eunhyuk hyung.” Changmin piped up. I can tell that the boy had not let up on his notions of pairing us up.
“Well, of course. I’m his best friend and we haven’t seen each other for a while.” Eunhyuk replied in confidence.
“But, the two of you talk to each other on the phone all the time.” Changmin pointed out, damn that boy. We talked on the phone about the case and why is he telling that to Micky? What if it arouses his suspicions of us?
Micky turned and looked at Changmin with new eyes. Was he getting suspicious of him? It’s all the boy’s fault for saying things like that. I knew I better say something to distract Micky before he could proceed on his thought.
“Is that it? Why didn’t you say so? Eunhyuk, go, I’ll see you later.” I turned to Hyukjae, giving him a look. I didn’t see the look of happiness that was on Micky’s face when I said that to Hyukjae.
Hyukjae turned to give Micky one last look before turning back to me to say, “Su, I see you later after class.” He understood what I was trying to say immediately.
“Ok, yeah, why don’t you bring Sungmin over for dinner tonight at my place?” I said, it would be good for all of us to meet to update each other on the latest developments on the case.
“Err…is this a special occasion or am I invited as well?” Micky asked hopefully.
“Do you want to? It will be a pain sitting down together with Eunhyuk when he is in that mood. I think maybe next time.” I said, hoping that he will be deterred since we were most likely be discussing him and the case. I could tell he was disappointed at being left out. He was looking like a lost puppy.
“Yeah, hyung, better make it next time.” Changmin seconded the notion; the boy was finally remembering his first role was still an agent on a case and not a matchmaker.
“So who is this Sungmin guy?” Micky asked.
“He’s Eunhyuk’s room mate. They’re sharing a apartment just next to Changmin.” I said, forgetting for a moment that he had not been introduced to Sungmin yet.
“Who’s cooking?” Yunho suddenly asked, his simple question breaking the tension between all of us.
“Me of course, or we can call take out.” I replied.
“Junsu, you can cook?” Micky asked in disbelief. What’s so strange with a man being able to cook? Well, one has to learn to cook somehow when you lived alone.
“Of course and he is a very good cook.” Changmin replied, I could already see the wheels turning in his head.
“Count us in then,” replied Yunho. He knew he had to be there but we have to have an excuse to exclude Micky.
Micky look so sad and alone at hearing that. He must be feeling sorry for himself. I turned to whisper in his ear, “Don’t worry, I’ll cook for you next time, just the two of us.” I winked at him, giving him a reassuring pat on his thigh, though how I’m going to manage that is another question with those friends around. Was it wise to get involved with him and to get his hopes up when both of us are on a case? Maybe it would be worth it when I see him smiling happily at my words.
