Get your own holographic Rimmer!

Holograms have always been a quick, easy way for movies to tell us they're taking place in the future. As soon as you see someone talking with a human-sized hologram, you realize there's no way you'll ever be able to do that, and a part of you dies. What would you do with two Rimmers? Where would they sleep - or even stand?

I find it odd when they want to talk about life-size holograms that are something someone would actually want, they fall back on Star Wars. Those are not good holograms. Al from Quantum Leap would be a well-known hologram that fits more what people might find desirable, as far as freestanding and able to interact (minus the ability to touch, of course - is Rimmer the only solid one in fiction?).

There's the holographic Doctor from star trek voyager. He was basically hard light. The andromeda ascendant (the ship from the show andromeda) could project her image in her corridors as she saw fit. Though that was more an extension of the ship's core personality than an independent entity. But the holographic Doctor totally counts. He was my first experience with an independent holographic character actually.

Yeah, I forgot all about him! I can't believe it, because I loved him too. He was awesome.

Oh yes. Hes probably my favorite character in all of trek. But aside from him and other trek holograms, I can't think of any other holograms. Well, maybe the AI from the Halo universe, but I'm not sure they really count.

I confess: I've never seen "Star Wars". Is the nearly-naked woman from that, or just there to attract fanboys? :p

No, not from star wars. Almost looks like Cortana from Halo, but it's probably just a generic image.
