I'm nervous about it and hate everything I write (not in an 'no, stop you guys' way, but in a why-would-anyone-care-about-this way but it's high time I got out of that mentality, isn't it?

It was set up by annemariewrites, who has introduced me to some really inspiring YA authors and who constantly pushes me to better myself. Dammit.

But seriously, the YA world needs more people like her!

Yeah, there are some really great YA authors around right now. I'll have to check out the stuff by the other ladies too.

I hate everything I write too unless it's silly and then it's "Oh but that's SILLY so it's not good." At ECCC a few weeks ago, one of the authors on a panel was saying that she hates every project she's working on while she's working on it, even stuff as it's published. Just loathes it. And years later, she'll pull it off the shelf and read it, and go "WHO WROTE THIS? ELVES? THIS IS GOOD!" So I think it's really hard, as a writer, to objectively say, "Yes, I need work, but I'm not awful and neither is this."

Yes, that's exactly how I feel about it! I can't stand it as I work on it, I can't read it afterwards and it's only after some time has passed that I can bear to look at it... and then I'm impressed by it.

I agree, it's hard to find a good balance.

Okay, I freaking love your writing style. You're amazing at drawing the reader into the story in the first few lines and your descriptions are always awesome.

I also used to be obsessed with the Titanic as a kid (before the damn movie) and I used to try and imagine what it was like to be there. So I loved how you described it as total chaos. Also neat ending (for this part).

I loved Miss Esther Kelly's voice from the start and what a voice it is. You have drawn an amazing picture because the reader feels that contact has been made with this young lady--that's what makes this so good (effective is not a good enough word but I can't think of another at the moment). Esther stands out because you feel like you started to know her.

I've read your story and I am so bloody impressed, woman. Titanic stories have tended to stay in the same ruts, but you've done something I've never seen before, and the way you find moments of beauty in moments of horror without letting us look away from the horror for a moment is really arresting.
