I recommend getting your first one someplace fleshy, like your upper arm, rather than on a bony area, like the ankle. Apparently, it does hurt more right over bone.

I have a small tattoo on the inside of my calf a few inches above the ankle, which is not a very sensitive area. I found the process mildly uncomfortable, and it wasn't how much it hurt (prickled, really), but for how long I had to relax and just let it happen.

Thanks for the advice. So on the calf is a good place, and stay away from bone the first time around. ;-)
