Wilson by *inklou on deviantART

I spent the evening watching a couple of movies over at my dad's house, one of which was Cast Away. It's a swell movie, and Tom Hanks holding conversations with an inanimate object made me lol. Then came this scene and I thought to myself:

Did I just really cry over a volleyball?

I think of it this way:

Tom Hanks' character had zero human interaction, so he personified and made friends with the volleyball. He had nothing else. So for him, he lost a friend and something he regarded as a human companion.

I suppose it's seeing him get so devastated over the ball that really drives the scene home.

RIP WILSON

Wilson should have won for best supporting actor.

Only Tom Hanks can make us cry over a volleyball.
