Woke up ten minutes ago, not a fucking joke

I had set my alarm for 6:30 a.m. It's 16:15 now. 15 minutes ago I woke up to the loudest damn siren I ever ever. Two solid minutes of Hawaii's state emergency system siren. Lasty night, 8-something p.m. our time, there was an 8.8 earthquake in Chile. There is now a tsunami warning for our state. If it does hit, it could be taller than the islands

Yiiiiikes!! I hope you guys will be okay. A tsunami bigger than the islands themselves?! I'll be thinking of you and praying. And checking news to see how Hawaii's doing.

Thanks also for the prayers and good thoughts. The giant height was the first report my sleep-addled brain heard. I'm hoping it's more reasonable than that, or has gone down. It sounds like something one would say in hyperbole.

I just emailed you back with her email. Oh, and I did send in my query in to the contest. We're as prepared as we're gonna be until (if) they say we need to evacuate.

I know I have on occasion disappeared from the online world just 'cause, so I didn't want to leave you guys wondering if I was all right. At least for now I am intact. But I should probably turn my cell on just in case.

Fingers crossed for the contest then. I'm hoping for the best, but [Oy, another siren. Not a fun way to wake up, doesn't get any better throughout the day] I don't know if I'll get any more than what she says, an explanation of why it'd be rejected. I edited my most recent one a bit before sending it off, but something about it doesn't sound right. Not sure what, though. Not enough tension, I think.

Huh. Some roads here closed, and another earthquake, this one in Argentina. This is not humanity's best weekend ever.
