Nominations discussion 2013

(*whispers*: please read the info post before hopping in here!)There was some confusion last year with the designation of large and small-sized fandoms. This year, the answers should be a bit simpler! Fandom size does NOT matter, and aside from a little wiggle room, there are only two rules for nomination eligibility ( Read more... )

Would Barbara Gordon be eligible? It looks like she has 604 complete works on the AO3, but she shows up in several of the rarewomen stories from last year. Although that could be because she was an optional detail from someone's request, or she had fewer stories last year? (Or do Batgirl-Babs and Oracle-Babs count separately, or something like that?)

I don't think the A03 tags differentiate which Barbara Gordon it is - so those 604 works could be the sum total of comics Barbaras, the various animated Barbaras, and live action Barbara.

I think you're right. So it might be possible to nominate, say, comics Barbara, even though there are more than 500 works for the sum total of all forms of Barbara? Although it looks like most of those works come from various comics incarnations (Birds of Prey, Batgirl, DCU, etc.).

PROMO: Haven, Audrey Parker, Lucy Ripley, Sarah Vernon' and any of the supporting female cast

Audrey deserves so much more fic and there are entire worlds to uncover for her past incarnations of Sarah and Lucy.

PROMO: NCIS, Caitlin Todd, Rachel Cranston

Kate had two short but memorable seasons - memorable enough that a few seasons ago, we were introduced to "Dr. Kate's sister, Rachel"

There were stories we never finished writing for Kate and now a whole new dimension is added as we got to know Rachel more.

Female characters in Sherlock holyfant January 25 2013, 08:36:36 UTC
If we go by the "less than 500 hits on AO3" rule, pretty much all of Sherlock's female characters are rendered not eligible (even Harry Watson, who doesn't even physically appear in the show). Only Sarah Sawyer and Irene's maid Kate pass the <500 hits test. Would characters like Molly Hooper, Irene Adler, Mrs Hudson, Sally Donovan etc still be considered rare enough for this fest? As far as I can tell most of their tags come from them being supporting characters, rather than the focus of stories.

Sherlock is a very male-centred show and its fandom is overwhelmingly focused on m/m, so it'd be nice to have some more stories actually focusing on these women.

We know about the weird tagging system on AO3. We'll be using both that and a count of less than 200 on fanfiction.net to determine eligibility. The post will be edited to reflect that.

And yes, I believe most women in any Sherlock fandom would probably end up qualifying, if not all.

I'd like to nominate characters from a handful of tiny fandoms (under 30 stories each on AO3) if that's permissible.

Shakespeare, Richard III - Queen Elizabeth, Anne Neville, Cecily Neville, Margaret of Anjou

Shakespeare, Henry VI - Margaret of Anjou, Elizabeth Woodville, Eleanor Cobham

Shakespeare, King John - Queen Eleanor, Constance, Blanche

Shakespeare, Henry IV - Doll Tearsheet, Mistress Quickly, Kate Percy

Shakespeare, Richard II - Queen Isabel, Duchess of York

Shakespeare, Henry V - Princess Katherine, Alice, Queen Isabeau

I'd also love to nominate several Historical RPF categories but there are so many rare women in each that I have no clue where to start...
