Endless illness and an aspiring ranger's perpetual job search have sapped all the time and energy I once had for journaling and correspondence.
synchronaut recently let me know that an old chum from Humboldt felt bummed at the lack of contact with me, and while she could take the initiative and either read this journal or send the e-mail or make the call, I could just as easily drop her a line if only I could find the energy to make the time. It then occurred to me that I hadn't seen
synchronaut since
02 January, and I hadn't seen his partner,
gwynny, since the first few minutes of 2008, and she has made the effort to stay in touch despite the hailstorm of shit that comes with the ultimate semester of one's undergraduate career, whereas I have faltered on my end of the deal. And had I only acted sooner, I could have made the time to head up to Humboldt this weekend for a conference that could perhaps have benefited my job search and eluded my current illness!
In related news,
gwynny the Great will succeed me as a ranger of the redwoods this summer, which comes as great relief; I had hoped that my beloved park would end up in good hands after the "all-star" crew disbanded, and with her on board, I feel confident that Redwood will carry on just fine.

In summary, we will make our way to Humboldt soon, and no amount of illness, job searching or other traveling will keep us from finally making good on this.
gwynny and
synchronaut, let us know what days work for you!
