Thawing Out

The frozen tundra met us and left us with temperatures of no degrees, but we had a nifty time in Eau Claire (and I in Duluth) nonetheless. I will post in detail later, but as I have to work tomorrow, I will leave a cryptic montage of images in the meantime:

Yeah - my sister acquired a Pomeranian puppy whom the family dubbed "Elvis." He makes a good pet, and will make a much better pet when he calms down a touch and gets housebroken a ton.

Anonymous Jess (on the right) and I have known each other his entire life (I have about two-and-a-half years on him). We've always shared an interest in medieval history, but he pursued his all the way to a master's degree (perhaps even less employable than my degree), acquiring some swords in the process. We have a long-standing tradition of staging photographs with crossed swords upon our reunions, though we have substituted hatchets, fireplace pokers, bouzoukis and potted Norfolk Island pines when we've found no swords available.

Wow, that's probably the most useless degree ever.

Yippeee - it's the Pabst sign!! I see that you haven't forgotten how to dress - the obligatory northwoods plaid shirt is the evidence for sure!

Welcome back!

Yeah, I had to clue in the clueless on the Pabst scene, but you got your eight jillion points for knowing what I meant right away.

Not just any plaid shirt - a Leinenkugel plaid shirt. I have two of them, and wore them both in my time back there.

Thanks! I got to paddle around with a harbor seal today; I love living here!

Yeah, I already like that puppy much better than the hulking brutes they had before, and I expect to like this one even better once some mellowing and housebreaking sets in.

What were the hulking brutes they had before?

I'm not much of a dog person, but that ball of fluff isnt really like a dog at all :)

Two huge, stupid dogs (stupid because their keepers never taught them any better).

I grew up with the perfect dog - a collie who had attained maturity by the time I formed memories I could keep - who ruined all other dogs for me. I've met dogs here and there that I like well enough, such as the little guy in the picture, but I don't know that I'll ever acquire one for myself.
