It also feels weird to leave a job I like. I mean, I have accomplished a lot and it's a good time to leave, but it still seems weird to cut out on something that isn't a bad situation. It doesn't feel quite justified.

Similarly, just because our current situation doesn't totally suck doesn't mean we should feel bad about jumping at the chance to get into a situation that sucks even less.

I got sick of Sacramento and fucking Dublin right quick, but it feels good to have a few places to which we could happily return. Alameda, Arcata - we'll do fine, either way. I'll just miss having the friends and recreational opportunities here available to me on a daily basis.

We definitely look forward to having my brother and sister-in-law handy, especially as he and I try to bring up our children differently from how we grew up.
I hesitate to divulge details on pending job applications here, as writing about them magnifies my hopes and writing about not getting jobs brings both me and my readership down way more than necessary. Please pardon my superstition.
