Inevitable Ideations Induced In Insomniacal Inanition

Jul 30, 2007 00:17

The enormity and suddenness of the move has started to sink in this weekend, starving me of sleep at night and leaving me useless for much other than poring over the same rental listings between fitful naps and bouts of sitting around. Just as the Bay Area pushed me away three years ago, truncheoning me with the traffic I never quite learned to ( Read more... )

Well said! You've helped me see why I feel so torn - it's the first time when I am actually making a choice to move. Because we have a child, it somehow feels a little irresponsible to uproot our family. You are right, though, we have been living in a manner that isn't permanent and it's time to make that change.

It also feels weird to leave a job I like. I mean, I have accomplished a lot and it's a good time to leave, but it still seems weird to cut out on something that isn't a bad situation. It doesn't feel quite justified.

Meh - I wouldn't worry too much about "uprooting" the Boy at this point. I'd like to see him move beyond his roots in the Shitty Apartment! Ideally, though, we would have a good permanent-ish situation in place by the time he starts school.

Similarly, just because our current situation doesn't totally suck doesn't mean we should feel bad about jumping at the chance to get into a situation that sucks even less.

For someone who has moved about 6 times in the past 7 years, I hadn't really thought of the impact it would have on you two to move. I can see why you guys love Arcata so much (I love to visit!), and I can't imagine what it's like to leave jobs that you both enjoy. I tire of places very easily, both city and job, so by the time I move I am generally sighing with relief. Luckily, I think both of you will be very happy in the Bay area, especially since you are moving near family. Like you said, if San Fran doesn't work out for some reason, you can always move back, but I have a feeling that everything will work out just fine.

Thanks. Each move generates a certain amount of worry for us, but this move musters minimal misgivings.

I got sick of Sacramento and fucking Dublin right quick, but it feels good to have a few places to which we could happily return. Alameda, Arcata - we'll do fine, either way. I'll just miss having the friends and recreational opportunities here available to me on a daily basis.

I personally enjoy moving around and trying out new things. The fact that we might be up here for more then 2 years is a little weird to me. But I love change, and I think this will be good for you and your family. And life will be easier if you're closer to family... give you and the wife a chance to have a night out. What park will you be working at? We'll have to stay in touch, I travel down to SF occassionally when my hubby is gone... just to hang out, I love it down there... lots to do. I don't know when you're moving by Aug 3rd my photos will be up (and for the whole month of August) at Old Town Coffee and Chocolates.

I've always tried to find that one perfect fit, but life has taught me that any number of good fits wait around every bend. That said, I'd rather live life in one place and know that place better than anybody than as the ranger that "did a season" here, there and everywhere without ever really knowing any of the places.

We definitely look forward to having my brother and sister-in-law handy, especially as he and I try to bring up our children differently from how we grew up.

I hesitate to divulge details on pending job applications here, as writing about them magnifies my hopes and writing about not getting jobs brings both me and my readership down way more than necessary. Please pardon my superstition.

I mentioned to the Wife that we ought to catch *sniffle* one last Arts Alive! before we move, so we'll make a point of catching your show on opening night. Do you plan to attend your debut ( ... )

personally, we (speaking for your brother and myself) couldn't be happier that you are moving back here! in the year+ that the Boy arrived on the scene, having family close by has taken on new significance... and since we have a Kid on the the way soon, make that double.

plus, you know... i like you guys and it a bummer that our visits are always packed between 6+ hour drives.
