My favorite quote from my favorite movie, Harold and Maude
“Maude: I like to watch things grow. They grow and bloom and fade and die and change into something else. Ah, life!
I should like to change into a sunflower most of all. They're so tall and simple. What flower do you like to be?
Harold: I dunno. One of these maybe.
Maude: Why do you say that?
Harold: Because they're all alike.
Maude: Oh but they're not! Look, see, some are smaller, some are fatter...some...some grow to the left, some to the right. Some even have lost some petals. All kinds of observable differences! You see, Harold, I feel that much of the world's sorrow comes from people who are this...yet...allow themselves to be treated as that.
”
And some context so that it makes more sense:

ETA: Oh yes, I forgot! I was in quite the fic conundrum but I figured it out. My AU is obvs set in the late 60s and of course black people are going to be referred to as Negros in the dialogue. So like, I was thinking, "Hm, what about in the narrative?" an I decided to use negro in the narrative too for consistency. Yeah.
