Musings back to my wedding and marriage days

Some anonymous person made a comment in a recent entry of mine (in which I mused about Mary & Casey's wedding & party). I'm making it a separate post here, since I kinda took the question and ran with it, musing back on stuff I haven't mused about for a while.

We've gotten so many compliments about our ceremony, which was a joint effort of me, Casey, and our officiant, but I still smile at every one.

I loved our wedding. :)

And because "flickr is having a massage," according to its error message, I figure I'll toss this link up instead:

Pics won't come through until Flickr is back on its feet. Maybe I should host some on geographile. :)

I think one of the biggest reasons it had to be like this was because it had to please Casey, too, and it had to reflect us as a couple. There is no way to do that accurately without getting rid of most of the shoulds. Our whole relationship has been without shoulds, except for the "thou shalt be nice to each other" part.

Would you believe that I never quite registered that there are small female humans out there fantasizing about weddings, before reading your post?

*shudder*

In specific, I found that my wedding still attracted too many "shoulds" for my comfort. Mom requires this bunch of things, Dad requires that bunch of things, etc.

I was talking to a recently engaged person at work today (a drug rep). I said, "Remember... This is YOUR day, not your mom's, etc. Don't let THEIR idea of how it should go muck up your vision".

I see that too much. Parents want X, relatives will be miffed if you don't do that. Look "My" up in the dictionary, folks! Trying to accommodate is one thing, bowing to demanding/guilting is another :P
