This is of course posted other places, but I'm posting this here for Boz, who's having a hard day!  The story is called, Lost and I wrote it for a challenge.

Oooh, it does indeed have a surprise ending. I like it. I like the implication that perhaps he was bullied and 'twisted' into the man he became. I also like the sympathy we feel for him which adds to the shock value of when we find out exactly who we're having sympathy for.

I do wonder at Aragorn's raised eyebrow, though - that hints at more. If you ever consider writing more or extending this story I would be most interested in reading it. :)

You are very welcome! I'm glad that you enjoyed this little story. Most people have reasons for the way they turn out and I figure Bill was no exception... something twisted his soul and being bullied could do it.

I don't have further plans for this, but I never say never. :) If you want to read some of my other stuff, I do have several other short stories at ff.net with a variety of characters - Thorongil, Elrond, Eomer, Arwen... I know there are others. :)

I love this story - the end just takes the breath out of me. It's one of my favorite short stories that you have done. Well, along with all those others. :S
