A Sunday Rosebud

Prompt: Chains
Setting: Wishverse

He no longer felt the cold steel of the manacles around his wrists. He no longer felt the sting of the holy water, or red, hot pain of the matches.  He had ceased to wonder how or why things had turned out this way, why she never showed up, why he had failed.

He had concluded long ago that it had all been a trick, a rouse for the universe to lure him into his rightful fate. Had he really been naïve enough to think that he, the most loathsome of creatures, had been chosen for a special destiny?  A demon who deserved nothing but punishment? It was laughable, really, that he had fallen for it.  But once he had seen those shining, hazel eyes, he was sunk.  He would have volunteered for eons of torture, just for the chance to gaze into that brilliant light.  Well, torture was what he had gotten. If he had it to do over again, he doubted he would choose differently.

Now, his captors were gone, off to fulfill some evil plan that he had no hope of stopping. That left only him and his chains, and an eternity of regret.

A/N: I really hope Buffy's eyes are hazel.  I googled it and found everything from green to brown, so I chose the middle ground.
