jessica has decided to move to blogger. that's cool, because you can syndicate your blogger posts to LJ, and people who don't feel like using a newsreader can still read your posts from their friends page ( Read more... )

I have a blog on blogger mainly for my friends back home to keep up with me, since I still feel weird about people IRL knowing about my LJ unless they have an LJ as well since my friends aren't too keen with the whole internet thing.

But I did not know about this capability you speak of, so I free of your hate!

I have my grad school/teacher blog over at blogspot, and I don't like it because I love the conversation that happens on LJ, the threaded comments. I love how they host everything, how easy is to watch other blogs, all the communities. I'd miss this if it went under despite my occasional posting.

my feelings exactly.

to comfort us, there are other sites like LJ running the same code (when it USED to be open source >_<): deadjournal, greatestjournal, insanejournal, etc. so we'd still have the same benefits. the problem would be deciding which one to migrate to if LJ ever did go under ... we'd lose a lot of the community that we so enjoy now, as they'd most likely be spread across 3-4 different networks.

Ya, I started out on Deadjournal. My old one is actually still over there under the same screenname. For whatever reason, DJ doesn't allow one to back up the entire journal at once, only month by month. That hassle has kept me from backing it up and taking it down. As I understand it, it's something with the way they have their settings and export options.

It seems like several folks on my list -- those that are concerned anyway -- are migrating to Insanejournal? I hate that we're essentially going to be scattered to the wind. It's middle school graduation all over again.

Typing IJ is just weird.
