OK, I am an hour behind schedule, but the fic is updated!!!! There are a couple of larger chunks and some smaller ones replacing bits. Otherwise things are generally shunted around a bit, so I would recommend starting from chapter eleven and seeing what you think if you are interested in seeing it anew... *bites fingernails* I slightly like the ( Read more... )

...downloaded!

I realized when you started posting individual chapters that this is a story I'll probably need to read all the way through, then go back and read the earlier parts again, before I put it all together.

So it may be awhile before I comment, but comment I shall.

No worries! It is all a bit back-to-front and inside-out, but I hope something comes out of it even on the first time through. I started seeing it like a very long short story by the time I got to the end (a genre I am much more comfortable with than the novel-novel!), so it remains slightly impressionistic by design, I think. Hope you enjoy, anyway!!

I've been trying to comment on your updates for ages, but my house is like a B&B at the moment and I got caught up in watching old episodes of 'Orange is the New Black' (which I can't decide is either sensationalist and a little racist or a strong statement of some sort ( ... )

Oh, no worries! I just assumed you were busy. :D I was a huge fan of OITNB S1, but didn't like S2 that much (it seemed to be a lot more about clichés and fanservice, which did seem to fall into rather more ethnic stereotyping, rather than a properly interesting story)... I haven't seen S3. Of course, as is probably clear, I'm rather fond of stories where poppy blonde cheerleader types uncover different things about themselves and what society has done to them, so I am probably beyond biased ( ... )

I suppose the Spuffy story really is about Buffy saying ILY, but I'm not sure what would bring her to that...

Well, they have to be dying... I read that somewhere :-)

I don't think there is much S4 love out there. It's all a bit silly, really. Ebble Cordy never quite hit the mark and I could never work out what Zoe was doing there. But Gwen was really early in the season, so maybe???

....and you're welcome. I loved the story.

One change I'm wondering about - the chicken to jerky?

Hahahahahaha. Yes, although I'd like to think this wouldn't be a recipe for these people their whole lives!!

On the jerky - I wondered if anyone would pick that up! I'm kind of sad about it, but after writing so many scenes about chicken stock, I felt like, as the last line of dialogue, the bit about the chicken suddenly came across as me Trying To Say Something - and it was a something that I didn't disagree with, but I wanted the tone of the epilogue to be more throwaway, even if I think it's important for being throwaway, so I sacrificed the chicken. (Of course, the line was already a bastardised version of a line from an original draft which I had grown too attached too, where Spike finds Buffy conscious and insists on kissing her anyway, and Buffy calls him something like 'you stupid, sexy piece of KFC'. It didn't make much sense, but it amused me, so I wanted the memory of it!)
