At least fourteen hours on a plane-- even two separate planes-- was almost too much time for Duela to imagine. Still, she'd gotten first class tickets, so at least the seats were comfortable. "It was inevitable. I'm well aware of what he's like." He shifted a little uncomfortably, trying to position his legs. Even with the extra room, it was a bit cramped. "I meant what I said. You could have invited them."

"I'm trying to make a good impression on your family, Jonathan. The last thing I want is... to cause a scene, and they're both very good at that." She laced her fingers around his. "Let's not talk about them. Please?" She wanted to forget, even if she knew she couldn't. It'd be better than... than trying to decide what she thought about them right now. They were her parents. She had to love them no matter what, but... She was allowed to hate them right now, wasn't she? Daddy could've killed Jonathan, and Mom... Mom had left her. Just because her dad chose to stick up for her... pick her mother over her... Duela tightened her hold on his hand. "It's not going to be like that for us, is it?"

He smiled at her, placing a hand over hers. "Is that even possible? I doubt it, very much. And I wish you wouldn't worry about impressing them. They've already accepted you."

"They're your family, Jonathan. Of course I'm going to worry. I just... I know you're sure they will, but I just... really want them to like me." She gave him a small smile, though it didn't hide the tears in her eyes. "I don't want for both of us to be fighting with our families over our choice in spouses."
