I think the main thing to consider in this very important question is that Vikings are essentially cold-climate pirates. Pirates are typically in the Caribbean, coasts of Africa, southern Spain: all very warm places. Whereas Vikings travel by ship, plunder and rape, but they do it very close to the Arctic circle, which I think makes them a bit more hard-core. Never-the-less, I would definitely prefer to be a pirate over a viking.
Ninjas are awesome, they get to be silent, deadly and carry awesome throwing weapons. They are obviously the most technically skilled profession and therefore, in my opinion, the group I would choose to be a part of if I had to choose my life's profession out of the three.
However, normally this question is posed as part of a costume-party decision, and I feel that vikings or pirates have much superior costume potential, which is why you will never see me dressed up as a ninja.

and while pirats are great, a ninja would kill an entire shipful of pirates, without even being detected.
but i think, jon, you've forgotten the most deadliest of all: the killer robot. as everyone knows, ninja magic is useless against robots, and since robots don't swim, they aren't anywhere a pirate (or viking) could pillage and plunder them. and most breeds of killer robots come with lasers.

to sum up: too much romance; not enough human killing.

Definetly a ninja. Silent and deadly =), though fun and raucous as a pirate might be entertaining too..not to mention the swashbuckling, cavalier outfits! But I think the whiskey and unbathed smell might get to me.
