you know what i'd like to hear?

an acoustic piano version of 'paparazzi' by lady gaga. it sounds like the kind of tune that could easily have started life as a non-vocal acoustic number, especially the 'promise i'll be kind, but i won't stop until that boy is mine' bit ( Read more... )

lady gaga, brain droppings, thinkerings, music in general, earworm from hell

when such a performance is done, it probably will not be done by Lady Gaga herself. I'm not sure subtlety is in her performance vocabulary ;)

oh, you never know...maybe once she's not such a pup, and feels a little more secure in her own talent...

btw, i'm very pleased to discover that the video indesputably brings out the 'creepy stalker' aspects of the song...i was a bit worried the kids might be carelessly singing it as an anthem of undying love, rather like old folks our age used to do with 'every breath you take'. :)

"Every Breath You Take" is a songwriter's object lesson about how tone can be more important than meaning in music ;)

(Fiddles; comes up with a not-entirely-accurate (though more accurate than her version), not-well-practiced, but somewhat representative piano version of the chorus in a few minutes.)

Yeah, you're probably right on that one. Although it ends up New Agey or something. :)

BTW, that full hand crossover trick Lady Gaga's doing looks impressive, but not to the classically trained folks who know what she did wasn't necessary with proper fingering. :)

wow. *bows lowly, humbled* you are indeed a musical god, chad...you see what i mean, though, it really works like that, doesn't it? (i'd much prefer to think of it as 'rick wakeman-esque' rather than new-agey, though.) ;)

btw, i thought i read somewhere that she is classically trained? she studied music for a while, at least...ah! apparently she was going to go to julliard but didn't. still, though, i reckon when you're lady gaga, a few things like proper technique are going to inevitably take a back seat to presentation. :)

Thanks on the piece. :)

Ah, I see... so she's more amping it up for show. It may be annoying, but, I guess that's what's floating her boat for now.

Did you see her on SNL? She did a medly of some of her songs with just a piano, and they all sounded good that way. "Bad Romance" in particular - it was the first time I'd heard it, and I was disappointed when I found the "real" version wasn't as good.

yeah, i think we talked about it when it aired...i thought her 'dizzy cartoon character' outfit was a bit distracting, and wished she'd ditch the glitz because she's more than talented enough without it.

her 'vamping' on her songs still bugs me, though. i guess i can understand not wanting to be a trained monkey and perform your songs exactly like they are on the record all the time, but yeesh...quit wanking around and just play the damn song already, woman!

Oh yeah, you're the one that said that. I didn't mind the vamping in "Paparazzi," but the spinning thing was really obnoxious during the medly.
