Blood Ties, a Review

Mar 14, 2007 15:29

This is a review for the new Lifetime Series Blood Ties. A series based on the Tanya Huff "Blood" series.

Most of this is spoiler-y and as such will be under a cut. Although if you have read the first novel in the series, Blood Price, you know the plot of the 2 hour pilot I just watched.

Spoilers! Be Ye Warned! )

I can't remember, is the blood series about the family of stain glass making vmapires?

No, although that really rings a bell.

This is Vikki Nelson, ex-cop turned private detective who teams up with a vampire. Henry Fitzroy, the bastard son of Henry the Eighth. Turned into a vampire before his 17th birthday.

It's a really good book series. I highly recommend it. Blood Price is the first novel (and incidently the name of the comic book Henry draws in the tv show.)

I've read it actually, just got confused, I guess because it's on lifetime. There's a spinoff series about just Henry.

Doesn't Henry write romance novels in the books? I've read like three or four of them. The one with the mummy, the one with the ghosts, and the on with Djinn and then a later one where Vikki and Henry don't get a long for reasons I won't spoil if you haven't gotten that far.

I have all of the series and the short stories. I really like the author as well and have most of her other works.

Yes Henry was a romance writer in the books. I say that wasn't cool enough for a tv show, so they made him a graphic novelist.

And this is why I miss Tony. How can they do the spin off series with him learning to be a wizard if he isn't in the show???

Is there a hard "C" in Italian? A double-C, maybe? (I'm thinking of Madonna's last name.)

I actually saw a commercial for that, and I think Adam put it on for like ten seconds. But we basically hate the good/tortured vampire thing, so it was never going to fly for us. Anne Rice ruined everything.

I got to watch it last night too. (Yay for the internet!) I also came to the same disappointment/conclusion about Tony. The actor playing Henry, I also noted the facts that he wasn't a redhead and wasn't short. But I thought he did a fairly decent job on the acting. hopefully he'll get more comfortable and commanding in the role as the show goes on. The one thing I did like about what's her name? Coreen? Was the purple corset at the end *snicker* I guess she's going to take on the role that Tony had in the book as the "word on freegade said he thought it might turn out to be like Kindred: the Embraced (aka Kindred: The embrarrassed, or Vampire: 90210) but I thought it wasn't too bad, I'm looking forward to future episodes. Unfortunately it's on the same time as BSG, so I'll have to tape it, or rely on the kindness of others online to download it from.

I noticed the purple corset as well! Fancy that.

And yes, I agree that Coreen is now the Tony character. I still am miffed. The real test of the series is going to be next week I think - when it leaves the book cannon.

You can see that it will already (though the other books may make an appearance). I don't remember New Orleans/Voo Doo Zombies for the books.

Haven't seen this, but if it's on Lifetime I should be able to get it. Have you-all seen the "Dresden Files"? The books are sort of "if Harry Potter grew up and had to deal with Merry Gentry's world"; so far it's been more "monster-of-the-week" (sort of like "Smallville") but the character is enjoyable and they're at least hinting about all of the magical-political machinations going on in the background.

I've been watching that in the hopes that they begin to incorporate story arcs and evolving charcters.

No such luck yet.

I was surprised that I kept watching the Dresden files because it's not very good but I can't seem to stop. I really like the ghost a lot, though everytime he gets upset its about something anti-climatic.

The ghost reminds me of Tim Curry.
