If Shu was Elena's rationality, the gods themselves only knew what Schuldig represented. Chaos to the Order? Fantasy to the Reality? Lies to the Truth?

In the wake of Shu's departure, he had been surprised himself at the depth of the grief and depression that had followed. His first feeling on the sight of him was one of uncontrollable elation, his heart quickening in his chest, pulsing so hard against his ribs that they could hardly contain it. His breaths drew quick, and his hand squeezed Elena's again to ground him ( ... )

If Shu was Elena’s rationality and stability, then Schuldig was the forbidden bite of fruit that tasted like Heaven on her tongue, even though she had no concept of what Heaven might entail. The allure was maddening, enough to forsake certain relationships and taboos she carried with her, a shape to shatter the mold she had been poured into. He was that which she never believed in, never had found, and that frightened her more than the rest ( ... )
