When Jake woke up, he was instantly aware that he wasn't hungry. His eyes snapped open to find his girlfriend snuggled up against him and he grinned. "Thank god."

He happily leaned in and kissed her cheek. "I definitely prefer this look on you."

"You were right to stop me," he confirmed, not wanting to think about what would have happened if she hadn't. He was back to avoiding looking at her, staring at her hair instead. "I don't think I could have stopped myself."

"Yeah, that's not exactly new for a first time biter," she offered, not really trying to look at him, either. "But considering everything, I think you did a good job being a vampire. If you had to bite anyone, I think I was a good choice."

"Yeah, sure," he snorted and he drew his hand back as he rolled onto his back, scowling up at the ceiling. "Biting the girl I love was an excellent choice."

That was just inviting her to follow, crawling on top of him. "Yes, it was. You didn't hurt me, Jake," she insisted, leaning down over him so he couldn't avoid looking at her now. "God, I practically liked it for a moment there."

"I know." He'd been there when she'd bitten him and he'd never really minded, but he was completely understanding her mortification now. "But it was selfish and all I cared about was getting what I wanted and I wouldn't have cared if it had hurt you."

"You would have cared later," she promised, leaning down until their foreheads met. "Hell, you care now. You never even flipped the emotional switch. Granted, I didn't mention it for fear you'd try, but Jake, come on, you aren't allowed to freak out after telling me for months that I have nothing to freak out about."

"Oh sure, use my words against me," he sighed and wrapped his arms around her shoulders. "You've built up a whole lot more credit than I have."

"Yeah? So why not tell me how lucky you are that I was there to help you and how much you love me for it and how you'll do anything you can to get me to Rio?" Caroline smiled, nudging her nose against his as he hugged her, pulling her down against his chest.

"I do love you," he agreed, his hand drifting up to tangle in her hair. He wasn't too eager right now to get to Rio, but she seemed to be and considering he chewed on her, he probably owed her that much. "We could probably arrange a portal or something?"

"Wow you are really bad at faking excitement," she told him, tilting her head and leaning in to press a half dozen kisses to his cheek and jaw. "I fully expect you to pretend you want to go on vacation with me and my new bikini much more believably than that."

"I know what you're doing," he informed her, eyes slipping closed at her kisses and he tugged lightly on her hair. "What new bikini?"

"The one I got two weeks ago. I'll give you a hint," she said, pausing to nip teasingly at his neck. "It goes with my wax job." Because of course she'd had that all taken care of for the dance last week, even if it meant she might need a touch up at the resort spa.

"Oh god," he moaned and he tugged her head up so he could kiss her. "We'll see if you manage to get out of the hotel room wearing it then."

Caroline laughed, returning his kiss happily enough. "You'll let me go. But maybe I can get you to come along and lotion up my back," she suggested, pulling back to sit up and smooth down her nightgown. "Come on, it sounds fun, right?"

"Sex with you always sounds fun," he teased, reaching out to flick at the hem of her nightgown, undoing her work of smoothing it.
