Wow, yes. I love those modern figures in the cathedral.

Cromwell's house would have been my second visit, for sure. But why plastic puritans? I don't get that.

Well, Oliver Cromwell's house is also Ely Museum, so maybe the plastic puritans were supposed to draw the tourists in? It's just unfortunate that they had the opposite effect on me.

I was so lucky that my visit coincided with the Sean Henry exhibition. His figures are amazing.

Ely was my second favorite place in England on my fateful long-ago bike trip. (Bath was my first favorite.)

And I just love those Sean Henry sculptures juxtaposed with the cathedral's medievalism.

I keep promising myself I will visit Bath! Maybe Bath should be next on my list of ambitious destinations. 😊

Yes. Seeing Sean Henry's figures in niches where there once would have been polychrome statues of saints... there was such a strange resonance.

But I don't know what Bath would be like today. Possibly quite different.

Probably. From what I've read there has been a lot of recent redevelopment on the outskirts of Bath, some of it quite controversial.

I like Sean Henry's people. They look right at home- but I don't suppose they'll be staying- which is a pity.

Yes. Sean Henry's figures, in niches where once there would have been polychrome statues of saints, looked like they belonged.

I'm so glad my visit just happened to coincide with the exhibition. It is a wonderful, thought-provoking work of art.

That was my reaction when I stepped through the door into the nave... It is a stunning edifice.
