Thursday, wherein I wax New Age-y

I'm not much of one to write about my dreams. I don't believe that dreams predict the future, or that they even authentically reflect the past. Sometimes a dream is just a meaningless mish-mash of disconnected things thrown into relationship; other times it reflects current concerns in our present life ( Read more... )

I believe that dreams are a message from the people that have already crossed over. You may not know what the messages are, but that is the reason. I also believe that if seeing people who passed is painful, that means there was unfinished businss.

That's my new cents worth. Keep the change.

Thanks - I really don't attach any deep significance beyond psychological to dreams, but I understand where you are coming from.

Freud's Interpretation of Dreams lays out the groundwork for looking realistically at dreams. He talks about the mechanisms of condensation (bringing disparate elements together) transference (the dynamic substructure of "symbolism" and the extraction of "meaning" from chaos) and wish-fulfillment (a tricky term to be approached with caution).

Freud is like a lot of people in his position in that he then goes on to attempt a re-totalization of that "dream work," which is kind of unsatisfying. So, skip that part. HOW it works is a lot more enjoyable than WHY it works.

Sounds like quite a dream you had, and one that unstuck a lot of emotions. I've been writing mine down for no reason, really. It just seems like the thing to do right now. I dream some strange stuff too!

Dream people often seem to be parts of ourselves clothed in other people's bodies. So if the other family members expressed dismay and confusion about your parents' absence, it probably means parts of you are dismayed and confused about it. Your subconscious was putting words in their mouths.

I know you're cute n'all, but I sooo can't be bothered with reading people's dreams, so just pretend that I made a pithy comment here: [insert pithy comment]

Far more importantly, you still thinking of coming over in Spring?

I wasn't recording the dream for you, ya twat! I was doing it for me!

I will come over before the end of the year - just have to figure out when, which is being a problem due to work :(

Oh. Then doubly why should I be bothered?!

Well, looks like we may well be stopping briefly in NYC round the end of the year, so either way...

When you dream about a house or enclosure of some kind, it represents you. The activities inside that house are what goes on inside your conscious and unconscious minds. People and places and things represent what aspect of those people, places and things you have internalized.

Of course, that is if you weren't actually attending a spiritually based dinner party. Sometimes we're invited out of our bodies, you know.
