An abandoned cabin, Cumberland, MD [Tuesday]

When Gordon had gotten Sam and Dean into his car, Sam expected to be blindfolded so he wouldn't be able to see where they were going, but Gordon merely tied him up so he couldn't reach the door and get out. Sam wouldn't have tried that anyway, not with Dean still unconscious in the backseat, and he found his attention divided by trying to keep ( Read more... )

"Keep it down, will ya?" Dean said, lifting his head enough to look at Sam through slitted eyes. "Hard to play dead when you're handing the orcs in my skull bigger pickaxes to dig with."

Sam wanted to laugh too, but there was something about Gordon's conviction that had him holding back and listening.

"My sources are good. Well, not good," Gordon said, turning a chair around and sitting down by Dean. "But they're right. After all, who's going to know what demons are up to better than another demon?"

"Yeah, and like demons can be trusted to tell the truth," Dean shot back easily.

"They don't always lie," Gordon pointed out. "Not if the truth is more interesting. I was doing an exorcism down in Louisiana. I thought it would be pretty routine, until the demon mentioned something about a coming war. It didn't want to say more at first, but you'd be amazed how demons can open up if you've got the right tools."

"What did it say?" Sam asked, trying to sound as calm and nonchalant as he could manage.

"That when the war starts, there are going to be human soldiers involved," Gordon replied, amused by how false Sam's lack of concern rang. "Humans fighting on hell's side, turning against their own kind." He stood up again and went over to Sam, no longer so amused. "Of course, they're psychics, and freaks with powers, so they're not exactly human to begin with."

Sam tried to remain stoic under that kind of commentary, but Gordon had managed to hit a particularly sore spot, and Sam couldn't help the wounded look that overtook him for a moment before the poker face went back up.

Dean shook his head tiredly. "Dude, I've met enough people with powers to know that they come in all flavours, good, bad and indifferent. If that's your big proof, that some people have powers, you're really reaching."

"There's no indifferent, and there's certainly no good. There's only bad, and on the way to bad," Gordon said. "The demon named names, including our very own Sam Winchester. It seemed particularly entertained that the son of a hunter is going to be one of the ones to turn."

"I am not!" Sam snapped, having given up on hiding the truth in the face of what Gordon seemed to already know. "You don't know me. You don't know my family. How could you think for even a second that I could..." He trailed off, too angry to argue coherently.

"I don't think. I know," Gordon said, "because I found some of the others."

Dean frowned and looked at him sharply. "What do you mean others?"

"Human soldiers, Dean, as in plural. It's not just Sam. There's a whole group of them that are going to go dark."

That was what Yellow Eyes had said to him, back when he attacked in Fandom. I have plans for you and all the children like you... "And you found them?"

"Some of them. I've managed to track a few of them, but I've only followed the trail to one so far. Or two, if you want to be exact," he said, shooting a pointed look at Sam. "First one was a kid who could deep-fry a person just by touching them."
