Yesterday in talking about Pixie to two people, both said that they would never do what we're doing, and would put the animal down - one actually did that (a cat, rather than a dog - who was old - an outside/barn cat), and the other went through the treatment with their dog, and based on that would never do it again, and would put the animal down ( Read more... )

You know everyone is entitled to their opinion- doesn't mean though that their opinion is right for you.
As long as you are comfortable giving Pixie the shots, she is living well and your vet seems to think it is a viable option, than this is the right thing for you to do.

Pixie is your dog and you know her best. If you don't think she minds the shots all that much (and as time goes on you both will get way more used to them) and she is doing well- I say go for it and if the others tell you they would never do it, well just nod and say thanks for the information.

Personally, I would follow the path that you have.

Thank you. That's what I'll do. It is a very personal choice, I guess - some people think of their pets in such a different way - like my neighbors that keep the 2 dogs outside 99% of the year. I'd never do that, especially for the small dog - but the dogs seem happy when I see them, so I guess it works for them. =)
