Julianna Margulies? I haven't seen her since she left "ER". Nice to see her doing well though. She was always very good in that.

Tatiana Maslany should have been nominated, yes. I assume it's the old thing about that kind of show being overlooked. It was gratifying to see how much outrage there was, though. That does suggest that she's being recognised for her work in some way at least.

Margulies has been nominated and possibly won before, I don't remember, for The Good Wife, which has rightly been winning plaudits for five seasons now. She plays the main character of the show and has been doing great work in it.

It is a shame that Orphan Black being the type of show it is should have stymied Maslany being given more widespread/mainstream recognition, because performance wise, what she does is amazing. The Emmys are well known for being staid - I think they tend to recognise the same shows/people over and over a lot, don't they? But I do think this is an instance where loud complaining was deserved.

Yes, it's straightforward dramas that tend to be nominated. The biggest winners have been "The West Wing", "The Sopranos", "Breaking Bad" - things like that. Deserving of the accolades, no doubt, but it does seem unfair to overlook other types of drama. Traditionally, sci-fi just hasn't been seen as something with the 'right' kind of acting. People probably think it's all "Star Trek", and people with funny heads on. That's why sci-fi has its own awards, I suppose. Hence you have a show like "Babylon 5", that was universally acclaimed, but the only Emmys it ever got nominated for were for make-up and cinematography.

It does seem to be unfair that the acting (or most other kind of work in the production of TV shows) is being prejudged because of what type of show it's on. Plus, there's the issue, perhaps, of who's behind it - Game of Thrones is made by HBO and seems to have bypassed the prejudices.

In movies, I remember that arguably, Sam Rockwell got shortchanged of award recognition in a similar way for Moon.

The sci-fi awards are something, but they're limited to a genre and not a recognition by all your peers in your craft.

Ah well, awards are important in one way, but good work is good work and gets recognised as such over the years.
