"Hi Professor Lyman. Sorry to interrupt, but I was wondering if you'd be able to help me with some paperwork," she said, holding out the folder. "It's college stuff."
"It's getting to be," Isabel told him. "The deadline for applying is January first. But I'm aiming to get everything done by Thanksgiving," Isabel said. "That way I won't have to worry over Christmas. I'm looking at Cornell and their School of Hotel Administration. Which sounds silly but I think it'll work for me."
Josh's jaw dropped. "...hotel administration?" he repeated. "No. Political science, then law school. Take over the world, name hotels 'Evans', have someone else run them."
Because clearly everyone wanted Josh's life. Or Donald Trump's.
She shook her head. "I've had enough of politics. I know, I know! That's blasphemy. But that's how I feel at the moment. I don't want to take over the world. I just want to do something that makes me happy."
"You know what I'm good at. This seems like it's a way to build on that. And it doesn't involve battle plans." Isabel thought that was the best part.
Isabel was starting to feel like she should have brought him a cup of the Perk's best coffee as comfort for the potential brain breakage. "For now? Yeah. In a few years? That could could change."
"When you're applying for law school after you've realized that a life of having to deal with stupid people face-to-face will end in homicide?" Josh asked hopefully.
"No offense, but I read the news," Isabel pointed out. "The current people in charge don't exactly strike me as the sharpest knives in the drawer. Won't I be trading stupid people for self-important stupid people?"
Josh laughed. "When they're on vacation, everyone's a self-important stupid person. At least some of the members of the Cabinet have reasons to back up their egos."
"Well I wouldn't have to deal with everyone," she shrugged. "Only the ones planning events. So who knows, I could help plan your next inaugural ball in a few years if I wind up working in the DC area."
Josh laughed again. "I'm not crazy enough to deal with that part of planning," he said. "Okay, so one Cornell recommendation coming up. What other schools are you looking at?"
"James Madison has a program and I'll probably apply there as well. But I'm really leaning towards Cornell. It's supposed to be the best," Isabel replied. "Although the idea of Ithaca in the winter is kind of scary."
"I grew up in Connecticut," Josh said with a smile. "You'll get no sympathy. And definitely apply to more than one school. The Ivies are tough, even coming out of a school with the kind of reputation." He raised an eyebrow. "Or are you a legacy student?"
"Knock, knock."
