 This weekend:

I am fasting this weekend.  While it is intended to be a spiritual gesture it is not a Religious one.  I'm not being told by anyone to do it, it's not "that time of year" or anything.  I'm doing it for a fistfull of reasons.  I have become entirely too dependant on Caffine for brain function (I blame you AOKP) and it needs to stop.  I ( Read more... )

my suggestion is not to start counting the hours...just let it happen. my thinking is that if you analyze that, you may over analyze what you're doing and make it harder on yourself. finding a distraction is a good thing! Plus, you have an ending goal, which, I think, is more important. So, there ya go-- my unsolicited advice :D (although, if you wanted to count, i'd go for starting when you finished your last meal since, at least with me, meal times could be varied)

Good luck!
I hope you're doing well and that I get to see you soon! (although I've been neglecting ALL my friends since I've started back to work :( )

Thanks for the encouragement. I've done fasting before so I know I can hand;e it, it's simply a matter of determination. =)

See you soon hopefully!

Having fasted for various reasons in my life, I have two bits of advice for you: drink LOTS of water, and don't eat anything at all.

Often times, when we think we are hungry, it is really our bodies saying we need water. Drinking sufficient amounts of water will actually curb your appetite, making the fasting go by easier.

As for the "don't eat anything" part, that seems obvious, doesn't it? But some people will fast on the concept that they aren't eating a full meal, but might have a bit of fruit or something light to "tide them over." In my experience, this just makes the fasting more difficult.

The Disneyland thing might help. The food there is good, sure, but it's also EXPENSIVE which can be a decent incentive not to buy it. Plus, activity will keep your mind off your stomach's rumblings.

See you Sunday! Good luck!

I have been sipping on water since I woke up. Jeremy suggested crackers and juice, and I might do juice just to keep my blood sugar up, but I'm not going to eat anything that requires chewing.

I still haven't decided what to do today. I think I'll spend some time working on my Knighthood requirements. Plus I just bought a new book last night that I want to dive into. So I have lots to occupy my time with. =) Thanks!

Enjoy!! I'm not allowed to fast, for health reasons, but I watch people do it once a year. Often being one of the few non-hungry in a room holding a thousand people. I'd recommend a lot of activity, and not a lot of freeform thinking time. Also, smelling things that smell good, but are not food smells can help a bit. Like flowers.

Hope your day to yourself goes well, and I'll see you tomorrow!!! OUur First Privvy!!

Yay for you!!! I also blame AOKP for all the caffeine issues I've had. If there wasn't so much fun stuff to do, I wouldn't want to stay awake for it! =)

As for fasting and the like, there's a really great cleanse/detox that I recommend. I'll loan you my book and you can see if it looks like something you'd like to try. I keep meaning to do it again, but I can't seem to get myself to start it!

Clearing your system out does WONDERS for your wellbeing. Good for you!!!

I'll miss you guys tomorrow night. =( I hate missing your first Privy! But I'll see you Tuesday! HP Meetup, baby!!!

Nothing to say about fasting, but...are you a gamer?

I'm a beginner gamer. I only play those 2 really. And the Harry Potter games. I don't have much interest in MMO-RPGs.

But Jeremy and I really love Oblivion. I wish my computer could run it smoothly enough to make it worth playing. It's just too frustrating. But Jeremy's system is killer and he lets me play every now and again.

Have you tried any of the expansion packs? I like Shivering Isles.

I've only played Elder Scrolls III, and I didn't really care for it. When I get around to buying an XboX 360, I'll probably try out Oblivion. My PC is currently taxed just running World of Warcraft, and I'm lazy about getting more memory for it. :)

Jeremy has a lot to say on the subject of the Elder Scrolls series. He is the big gamer of the family.

I'm not sure how much it differs on the Xbox, but if you ever want to try it out, you're welcome to come down to our house and game away with Jeremy. He'd be over the moon to have another game to geek out with!
