I do like the way you hint at the reasons for Byakuya's depression, without even he himself taking a close look at them.

The way I see his character, I think Byakuya would very much compartmentalize and wall off emotional hurt to the point where he would simply not let himself think about what caused it.

I loved Byakuya's point of view here. You made him so human (on the other hand, how he dealt with Momo was even more remarkable - staying completely cool even when severely drunk).
That closing line was pure brilliance. Turning everything on its head in an instant and further defining Byakuya.

As for Byakuya's reactions when seeing Momo, I see him as being so much better at handling bizarre situations with aplomb than he is with getting bushwhacked by small but unexpected reminders of personal loss.

Given that the last chapter was about how slowly shinigami tend to change, it really does appear that there have been more changes recently than what the shinigami would be used to. Add these reappearances on top...
