Hospital Bags - Underwear

Aug 31, 2010 17:26

I've been setting stuff aside to pack my hospital bag but I'm lost on underwear. I know they say to pack stuff you don't mind throwing away but I have no clue how many pairs you should pack. It's roughly a 2 day stay for a VBAC and 4 for a c-section? So assume you bleed through one pair a day requiring you to pack enough for 2 pairs a day. Does ( Read more... )

I wore the hospital underwear the whole time I was there, then got depends at home (and those did come in handy). The hospital underwear is surprisingly comfy. That said, I never got blood on the hospital underwear. It all went on those big ass pads. Had I worn my own underwear, it wouldn't have gotten ruined.

I did not wear a nursing bra until he was maybe 3 weeks old to be honest. Heck, I barely wore shirts. Tits out and accessible was easiest.

I'm going the Depends route... how many did you go through in a given day? Hoping that's not too personal.

Maybe 2? That might be gross, but they were just so absorbent. I still have half the box. I only used them for a week, then I moved to overnight pads for 2 weeks, then a week of regular pads.

This! I loved the mesh underwear honestly. Those huge pads and ice (which you will need!) wouldn't have fit in regular underwear I don't think... But I only bled heavily in the hospital and when I got home my discharge wasn't even bloody anymore.

Also I didn't wear a bra in the hospital, but if you do get a nursing bra get one without underwire, because it can cause mastitis. =]

After my c-section I'm pretty sure I didn't even put on underwear until the day I left, ha. Mind you, I was catheterized for the first 1 or 2 days (it's kind of a blur) and I was still numb and bleeding a lot so they had those disposable mats underneath me. I don't think I put a bra on, either, just a hospital gown.

Have you ever used their underwear? Most women I've seen talk about them love them! I like that I didn't ruin my own underwear and also they weren't uncomfortable and they really held the pad in place well. If'd personally bring about 4 pair anyway, though. Someone can bring you more if you need them.

I loved the underwear, I stole the rest of them and wore then for the first week I was home.

I did the same thing. I even asked for a couple extra pairs besides what was in the "kit" they gave me for home and they were happy to provide them. They also gave me some of the extra pads that are also ice packs...so comfy!

I thought I would HATE them and I was so wrong.

I packed sports bras, and wore none until I went home.
I packed extra panties, but honestly, the disposable ones were the best for me for a vaginal delivery. I saved my personal ones for home.

The disposable will be way more comfy than your own (IMHO). They're loose and big enough to accommodate the big ass pads.

I didn't bother with my own underwear or bra until it was time to go home.
