For the breathplay prompt. Later than promised and likely redundant what with the awesome fill already from lallyloo, but you know, having gone to the effort of writing it thought I may as well put it up. Apologies for the overthinking -- I think I just have too much of a love of writing misewable/tormented Esca - still I spose he is at least canon eeeven if he's not fun. God I hope this has some basic coherence...?? Title is nicked from the lyrix of a devastating Jonatha Brooke song called "Paris" - "I try to decipher the friend from the foe in his eyes." felt appropriate for obv raisins.

/too many notes for a comment fic...Their sex is as much of a necessity as breathing, but like breaths, fucks can be shallow and dissatisfying even when they serve the basic need. Though Esca feels pleasure from what Marcus does to his body, he gets little comfort from the act ( ... )

Thank you for reading it sweetie. I'm working on editing t'other bitz but it's reaching that hour of the early hours where nothing I've written is making any sense to me so I might have to just leave it for the night. *sigh*

God the confusion that tiredness leaves in my branes so frustrating.

I love this description of Esca's feelings--the anger and shame contrasted with his deep love and loyalty to Marcus.

Yeah all I could think about when I saw that film (well once I got over the HAHAHAH AH THIS FILM SO GAY. DID HE JUST MAKE HIM KNEEL? ARE THESE PEOPLE TRANSCRIBING MY FANTASIES??) Was poor Esca. Like imagine such natural loyalty/love/lust for Marcus. Imagine him being all you have, when people exactly like him are the reason you have nothing.

How disloyal you must feel to yourself/your family for giving up anything to him.

*cries* poor Esca. People always write/talk about Marcus' shame over sex with Esca, few people write about Esca's shame -- he's just as noble and honourable as Marcus is.

Yeah, I always think about it, that's why there is NO HETEROSEXUAL EXPLANATION for this movie, Esca's love is the only think that can explain his actions against what was as close to his own people as it gets.

Oh, you are so, so right! Friendship my ass! Build on what? A couple of hunts and Esca trailing after Marcus obediently? It was too intense for that, too quick to happen and I'm not as naive as to believe that the actors, the screenwriter and the director didn't know exactly what are they doing ( ... )

Ohh Esca.. I love the conflict here.. Esca loving Marcus and wanting to be with him, but feeling ashamed of it.. And Marcus, being Marcus and not really understanding what Esca wants, and not wanting to hurt him, and then discovering he sort of enjoys it after all.. Also, loved the bit when Esca spreads his thighs.. hnnnnngh.

Yes see I can only see them both as a little conflicted. I need to work on that so I can write fluff because yeah just read yours again and so lovely. I don't why they are never quite happy whenever I write them.

Marcus does. Esca's body sings to be so reduced, entirely at the strength of another, all his own concerns and guilt for pleasure silenced, absent.

Marcus kisses whilst still holding his throat.

This is even hotter on the second (or is it third?) read.
