One of the girls happens to be the girl from a poor background who manages to fit in despite the struggles. The movie's pretty much the same. All about fashion, ( Read more... )

Modern technology in a Harry Potter fic is a big pet peeve of mine.

This tends to be a pet peeve of mine when there is no author's note or its not a crossover between HP and a fandom that needs modern technology so it rather goes without saying that there will be some modern technology in the fic based on this need. For example, modern technology is expected in .hack, Bleach, AKB0048, and Kamisama no Memochou because they play an important role in helping the story progress.

Fandoms like this though don't need the characters to have cellphones. They could just as easily be transported into HP's era and have the girls use land lines and have the current musical devices. Then again, I am not sure if this is the best fandom to cross over with HP. It would take a lot of work to honestly get it to work.

Normally this would be a positive note, but I believe the characters from the other fandom are actually in character. The problem is... their attitudes stink.

If there was just one more letter she would be a Massive Block. I'm going to read her name that way. It makes the story funnier.

Well... from what I've read the series is that bad. The mean girls never learn any lessons, the one sane girl wants to become friends with the people who bully her, they always get their way even when they've done wrong. The series is that vapid.

To be honest, that was the impression I got just from reading this fanfic. The series seems awful.

Oh, I remember the Clique series. Had a group of classmates that wanted to be like them when they read the series and began to act all snobby and as if they owned the world and when we went into secondary they became even more snobby and rude.

I don't like the modern technology thing, however it would be a funny thing to read about with Ron and Ginny trying to figure out a cell phone if they go to a muggle shop in the 21st century. I don't remember when cell phones came out but it would be a very amusing story to read. I also don't like this storyline. It is an interesting thing to play around with but is there even a reason for the characters going into the muggle world at all?

Is it just me or are the characters from Harry Potter a bit out of character? Hermione is doing and saying things that don't make sense as is Dumbledore.

I am reminded of a comment I read online where a mother said that her daughter told her she didn't want to act like the girls from the books so she felt that the books weren't actually sending a bad message. However, to me that is a sign that the books are indeed sending a message and while one parents child may not be influenced others may very well be.

Cell phones actually came out in the 1990's, but they were more of something that was for the rich and those in the business industry then an everyday thing. I like using modern technology simply because as you said it is interesting to see how these characters would react to such a device, but for the most part it doesn't play a major roll at all when it shows up in stories.

As for reasons why they may go into the Muggle world, how about going and visiting a Muggle Born for the summer? A lot of the other ideas are rather complex and wouldn't involve the person going and getting involved with the Muggle world right away.

And yes... they're horribly out of character.
