I feel like the compliments are genuine, but from misguided readers. Fanfic kinda has its own culture that reinforces a low bar. The likeliest scenario is that these reviewers are so exposed to bad writing that it's now perceived as a norm to them. Any doubts they may have had before is blown away by the disproportionate amount of praise a story gets. The worse reviews are the the shallow ones with buzzwords, which an inexperienced reader may believe to be from someone much more qualified. It's very unfortunate that writers can delete any comment they want and readers like to practice the 'don't like, don't read' mindset.

Oh god-THREE of them.

No reason this story should be told, and these characters should exist. The writer's trying far to hard to make their character special instead of trying to make them interesting.
