I don't know what's worse, the possibility that it'll copy key events from the book or the possibility that the plot will go nowhere. What's the motivation behind making these sort of fics anyhow? It's like they want to make a cartoon, without actually making it a cartoon.

One of my greatest pet peeves. Some really great fics (not talking about myself, here - I'm not that arrogant, I hope) get about zero reviews, but derivative crap like this gets a million. Is this because people lack any sort of respectable attention span nowadays? FFS.

I think it more of has to do with the fact this work is quick to read, and thus those with the shorter attention spans are able to absorb fast and move onto the next thing, where as with other works it takes longer to read, and people are thus taking their time. For me, this is another reason popularity (number of reviews) doesn't equal quality.
