Completion: Complete
Lucius had drafted, re-drafted, and revised his letter to Draco more times than he could count. It would have been easier to write a two-foot essay on how elkt - ilc - ilcetricity worked than to actually tell Draco how he felt.
Lucius suspected he had driven Renard to distraction with his owls asking for advice about the wording of his letter, but he had finally decided which revision he was going to send to Draco. Renard had read the latest draft while visiting the Manor and had, to Lucius' surprise, taken out a handkerchief and dabbed at his eyes upon finishing. Lucius had studiously ignored the gesture, but it was obvious then which version of the letter he should send.
Draco,
There are a few things you ought to know. I do not understand it, but if this girl makes you happy, then I should like to try to understand. I know very little about her, except that she seems a polite young lady, so I do not see why she is so special to you. However, I realise that this has gone on for a while, and I can only conclude that she is special to you, and I would like to find out why.
My apologies for telling you that you were not my son - I do not think my meaning was clear. I simply felt that you did not want me in your life, it did not mean that I renounced you in any way.
I feel I can do nothing more for now than to let you know, for the record, that I would be willing to accept your choices if they truly mean a lot to you. Know that I always loved you -- and still do -- more than I ever hated anyone. All I am asking you for is time, and a chance to understand.
Regards,
Lucius
P.S. If you read this far - thank you.
After much deliberation, Lucius clicked his fingers for Helios. The bird lit on his outstretched arm and shuffled, opening his beak for the letter. Lucius shook his head and scratched the owl behind his ears.
"Helios," he said soberly, "this may be the most important letter you ever deliver." The owl appeared to nod, and Lucius handed him the letter, watching as Helios hopped onto the window ledge and flew away.
