The plumber's just been to fix the boiler. He didn't do any work, blamed the problems on the previous person to work on it, and said the words "reset switch" and "activation code". Which doesn't bode well ( Read more... )

Friended you back - I particularly like the fact that you've studied my two main academic interests (biology and computing), which I haven't, though I've done some nice work/play in the crossover of evolution simulation ( ... )

Hehe everyone always thinks I want to go into bio-informatics, when I'm really more interested in development or virology. It's amusing when you find analogies between the two subjects though. I actually wasn't aware you were so interested in Biology til I looked at your profile, but was pleasantly surprised. I've never looked into physical anthropology with any depth before, so it's really quite new and interesting to get some details. Where and how did you work on simulations of evolution? I've seen limited desktop simulations of bacteria but never found them very detailed. Also what do you now do professionally ( ... )

When I meet trans people, I want to know their chosen pronoun, and their gender identification right away so I can avoid upsetting anyone. Usually if things are ambiguous (drag queens, transvestites, and the like, where I am not sure if they just have trouble passing or are dressing up but retaining some gender) I'll screw up my courage and ask to avoid fucking up later.

I have known people be weird about mutual friends, but mainly it seems they don't know what to do. I think making it clear how you would like to be treated eliminates this, so if anyone continues acting like a twat, you can safely write them off as being a twat.

However, mentioning it all the bloody time is wearing. As it is when people constantly mention they are gay, or goth, or manic-depressive, or whatever. Relevancy is the key.

Good advice. I should bear in mind that there will be questions, and while some may seem annoying they'll actually be wholehearted to not piss me off. Thank you.
