I went on an accidentally Internet-less vacation. I made careful plans involving the purchase of a nifty mifi thingy to avoid that very scenario, but it turns out that mifi only works if you are not vacationing in a concrete bunker, which I was.

The bunker did afford me ample leisure time. I finally watched the first part of Deathly Hallows (its ( Read more... )

Evil overlords. Which is why the concept persists despite the evidence against it.

I hold out so much hope that Aberforth will tell Harry that he was always meant as a lamb to be slaughtered when the Wizard Spring came.

Mwahaha. That's going to be hard to edit out, so I have high hopes.

I want to hear more of your thoughts on DH! (Wasn't the baby-eating implied? Maybe they'll discuss it further in the next film.)

I still haven't watched S1 of DA, but S2 contains one of my favorite OTPs ever, Max/Alec. Tell me when you get there!

They hit upon Dumbledore's information-hiding, but they do not explain the significance of Grindelwald for a non-reader. I have no problem with the films' prioritizing book devotees, especially because Edits Must Be Made, but I don't think Part 1 was so crunched for time that they couldn't have included three lines making explicit that (1) Grindelwald was Hitlerian/Voldemortesque bad news, and thus (2) a super-strange bedfellow for the ostensibly white-hatted Dumbledore. I'm guessing they'll get there in the second film, but why not set up those questions? And they can't really take back Grindelwald's ready disclosure of the location of the Elder Wand to Voldemort.

Meanwhile, I love that the movie not only refused to retcon the complexity of Harry and Hermione's relationship, but threw in the COMFORTY DANCE OF AMBIGUITY and lingered over it lovingly.

I am excited about S2 of DA!

I guess I wasn't considering people who haven't read the books at all. What I wanted to see was Harry getting angry about Dumbledore, so I was satisfied. IA that Dumbledore's true evil wasn't really explored, and that they need to do it at some point.

Okay, I didn't want to ask you outright about Harry/Hermione and The Dance, but you either know what I like or I sent it to you telepathically. I never thought an add-in would be my favorite scene of any HP movie, since they usually just piss me off, but aldjslkdfsdk! So, so unexpected yet perfectly placed and perfectly IC and just, I really enjoyed having a brief moment of "Omg, they are going to kiss," before I had to come back to reality.

I explored it further and found out the writer and director are basically H/Hr shippers and came up with this idea to express the UST between the pairing. Mission accomplished!

I often find myself watching the movies with people who have never read the books, so I am aware of the points at which I have to whisper explanations. Exploring Dumbledore's true evil will be necessary in part 2, and will make Harry's (already justifiable) anger even more justified.

Okay, I didn't want to ask you outright about Harry/Hermione and The Dance, but you either know what I like or I sent it to you telepathically.

Well, you have always vibrated closer to my het frequencies than just about anyone else, so there's that...

I think the movies have, since PoA, offered far more H/Hr overtones than the books, so I am not surprised that Steve Kloves has professed his allegiance to the pairing. I appreciated that we were spared book-Harry's speech about viewing Hermione as his sister.
