So far as I know, the most common reason to believe that there is no god is the overwhelming observational evidence, which indicates naturalism and the absence of a god.
However, there is also a very simple and fundamental principle of a-priori logic that disproves the existence of a universal god and creationism. Few atheists know of it, at least not with full conscious awareness of it. It is 'the fundamental incompatibility principle'.
The fundamental incompatibility principle is that specific entities (such as a god) can not effect abstract logical concepts (such as 'everything', i.e. the universe). Likewise, a specific number can not magically create or alter any of the absolute mathematical principles.
Furthermore, the fundamental incompatibility principle is related to why the theocrats are so disruptive of truth. Their theism derives from the disruption of the fundamental incompatibility principle in their mind, such that they perceive the polar opposite of the fundamental logical truth.
