I felt so virtuous as I entered PAWS Cat City store on Roosebelt Way NE this afternoon. I was going to get a cat 7 years old or older from PAWS Cat City. I was. They desperately need homes, and there's the minor matter of the fee: $35, as opposed to $100 for adult cats and $125 for kittens.
I really was.
And then I saw this little 6-1/2 month old Tuxedo b&w kitten. And I was had.
I've named her Hannah Batrix Wednesday Dragwyla. They gave her the name Hannah, and I added the rest. You know, for emergencies. The kind where you call, in a loud, stentorian voice: Hannah Batrix Wednesday Dragwyla, you come here RIGHT NOW.
She does get mischievous at times -- but she's a kitten, and she's entitled. So I've gone around the room kitten-proofing it as best I could this evening.
She was born on March 20 this year,, my birthday. And I remembered, after deciding to let her keep the name the PAWS people gave her, that Hannah is the real name of a central character in Rich's and my Here There Be Dragons series of novels.
I really was intending to -- well, that's what happens to good intentions. It's like war: the moment the enemy comes up over the hill toward you, all your battle-plans are toast . . .
