[Edmond is sitting in the CMA, with his Gallade and Zangoose on either side of him. He hums a little, apparently he's busy with something... Oh, he's making little red crochet hearts? It looks like somebody is getting an early start on preparations for St Valentine's Day

[Maxie is walking with his Pokemon, talking cheerfully out loud to it as he does when planning. He doesn't even notice Edmond or his impending horror for a moment.] I think the red glasses have a longer range of effectiveness but they strain my eyes, we should stick to blue - oh, hi Edmond.

St. What's day? Is this some interdimensional thing I'm unaware of? [He picks up a heart, looking at Milotic in confusion, but the watersnake shakes her head, equally lost.] I don't think my universe has this paritcular holiday.

[He blinks a little.]

... How can it be...?

[After a moment, however, he smiles and steps back so Maxie won't get in the way of what is going to be some really dramatic and theatrical gesturing.]

Fair enough. Allow me to explain.

Saint Valentine's Day, colloquially shortened to Valentine's Day, is a holiday to celebrate love. Couples, whether officially sanctioned or not, spend time together and exchange small presents, such as chocolate.

I was wondering if you [He gracefully extends an arm towards Maxie.] would be my sweetheart this year.

My iPod just shuffled randomly to the song 'I Will Possess Your Heart'

...you want me to what?! [Give his mind a moment to process that.] But I'm... well, you know. You can do better. You're smart and cultured, you could have anyone, so why...?

[His mind is simply bluescreening right now.]

OMG SO APPROPRIATE.

[Edmond's smile widens. He's still offering Maxie his open hand.]

Because you are the one I want, Maxie. You and no one else.

My iPod ships Edmond/Maxie, apparently.

[He reaches out and takes Edmond's hand, touched.] Then... I would be honored to be your sweetheart. What exactly am I supposed to do again? Get you chocolate?

It's an awesome iPod.

[Edmond shivers a little, looking really flustered all of a sudden, his cheeks flushing.]

... I had no idea you would accept, I... I am honored, too... Thank you, Maxie...

... You can get me whatever you like, I suppose. [As long as it's not a Water Pokémon...]

I have to go take a Biology test now, be back in an hour or so~

[He seems to relax at his question.]

Valentine's Day is February 14th. Even if the weather is still wintry, it's one of my favorite days of the year. [He sighs dreamily.]

I am very glad that you accepted, Maxie. I promise you will not regret it.

[Slowly and gently, he lifts Maxie's hand to his lips and kisses it, briefly, but fondly.]

So, two days after my birthday. I can remember that. I have no idea what I'll do, but I'll figure out something special. Somehow.

...don't make promises you can't keep, Edmond. [He tries to smile, but the expression is strained, and his voice falters.] You know, before I... when my eyes were normal, there was someone. I thought it would last forever, but... [He shouldn't have brought it up; now he's getting emotional, so he shuts up, uncertain of how to procede.]

It's okay! How did the test go?

Ah, so your birthday is even sooner?!

[Edmond clasps his hands together in delight.] We should celebrate that, too! Ah... you're an Aquarius? No wonder, seeing the changes you want to bring about in your version of Hoenn... yes, I should have expected that!

[However, Edmond's joy is short-lived. At Maxie's story, the Count's expression turns somber.]

If they ran away from you when you were hurt, it is clear that they do not deserve you. I will stay, Maxie, for as long as you will want me. Because I believe in you.

[Once again, he pulls Maxie into a tight, warm embrace.]

It was okay. I think I passed.

There's some kind of beautiful irony about being the leader of Team Magma and being an Aquarius. That said, I don't know much about that stuff. You'll have to educate me on this sort of thing.

[Maxie sighs, leaning against Edmond.] You believe in my vision. That's different than believing a relationship can work. I have flaws. Only my ideas are truly good.

I know! [He laughs a little.] You're so full of surprises! Aquarius is an Air sign, and it's the sign of people who want to have a positive impact on society as a whole... like you do.

Ah, here you go, speaking and thinking ill of yourself again... I thought we had covered this. You don't want to make me mad by persevering, do you?

[His hands travel to Maxie's sides.]

Because we've also covered what I can do to you if you make me mad.

I find it hilarious that I'm an Air sign with zero interest in being in the air. If you think about it, fighting Team Sky, I'm fighting my own side.

You can't fix me overnight. I have issues. I'm trying. I can do better. I promise. [He stills under the touch, sighing.]

[Edmond gives up on his attempt to tickle Maxie and instead holds him even closer.]

I have issues, too. So let us open up to each other and solve our issues... together. Shall we?

If you insist. I'm not sure that this is something we can solve overnight. I had self esteem issues even before I was nearly blinded, so it'll take time to change. And I certainly have an excess of time on the island.
