In my defense, AHS: Coven is finally up on Netflix, which means there has been little room in my soul for anything not American Horror Story. HELLO FRIENDS, I AM HERE TO TELL YOU THE GOOD NEWS: AMERICAN HORROR STORY ( Read more... )

Ah, I have been planning to watch this for ages (maybe, some day) but this video is always relevant:

oooh, thank you for the vid and YES WATCH IT, DOOOOO IT. I will say before you get started that you really don't have to watch the various seasons in order, so you can choose based on which setting sounds the most interesting to you.

This post brought me gleeful joy at 5 in the morning, so thank you. Season 3 was actually my least favorite of the series so far (Asylum was my top fave, followed by the Murder House, and then the current season, Freak Show, is just barely ahead of Coven), but what I did like about it you covered very well here.

Now you've inspired me to share with you some of my favorite AHS gifs:

YES OMG I LOVE ALL OF THESE

Asylum was my top fave

I think in some ways Asylum was the season that impressed me the most? I'm just having more fun with the later seasons.

Yeah, Asylum definitely impressed me the most too. But I get why you'd have more fun with the latter seasons -- they're not quite as dark.

It's too bad that my horror/gore intolerance won't let me watch this. On the plus side, it also won't let me watch Hannibal either. I watched Fringe with my eyes covered at least once per episode... I would NEVER make it through AHS.

Yeah, I tried to think off-hand of an episode or two that might not be too tough to swallow but I don't think there's really a workaround for either show. (I didn't mean to bag on Hannibal, I do quite like it! I just think the fact that it gets so much more Serious Drama (TM) cred than AHS is bullshit.)

I so desperately want to hate AHS because I have a thing against Ryan Murphy for giving us Glee (a great first season can't make up for far too many other seasons of suck), but dammit, Sarah Pauley, who I have been in love with since Studio 60, especially after I found out she was Laura in The Glass Menagerie (Jessica Lange was Amanda, and Christian Slater was Tom - that entertains me to no end).

I am waiting to PROPERLY read this when I finally get myself back on a Netflix account to actually watch the Coven first (I'VE BEEN SO EXCITED FOR IT AND WAITING SO LONG FOR IT!). While the 1st season of AHS was only barely watchable for me because it so many off my fear-of-horror triggers, "Asylum" managed to really make me ENJOY being hit by those triggers.

Also, Angela Bassett playing alongside (and not always friendly-like from what I've seen on Tumblr) Jessica Lange. Need I say more about htis? :D I canNOT wait. Signing onto Netflix may just be my next self-Christmas present... once I figure out what to do about all the other Christmas presents... >>"

YES DO IT. I think most of the horror elements of Coven are closer to the Buffyverse and Supernatural? Cable, so maybe more intense, but most of it's the kind of stuff you can distance from.
