Probably I should've counted tonight's post on The Wire as the first of these posts, but I didn't really think it through. STILL. Well, that sounds good. Can I just use this opportunity to mention how much I hate it when characters on these shows are Cool Rebels for ignoring people's rights?
...though, I don't think lack of that is going to make me like the genre either.

YOU CAN. It drives me up a wall. ACTUALLY NO, JERKS, abusing the power of the state by flouting the very tiny protections we do have for individuals is like, THE LEAST REBELLIOUS THING EVER.

But yeah, Major Crimes is a LOT less impressed with that bullshit, so if you're ever in the mood to give a cop show a try (and no one could fault you if that was never the case, obviously) this might be an enjoyable one.

One of the most interesting looks at cops and policing was a made for TV movie from 1973 called The Marcus Nelson Murders. It was based on a real life case where a young, low intelligence African American male was beaten into confessing to a murder he did not commit. He was convicted not only on his confession, but also on lies told by the police on the stand. After he spent 2 years in jail on death row, the police found out they had the wrong guy and eventually he was freed. The actual case is described here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Career_Girls_Murders... )

That miniseries sounds like something to watch, for sure. Thank you for the recommendation.
