Anyway, that ramble was beginning to make no sense, so... YAY! I LOVE YOU for helping me understand my own feelingsETA: Oh, also to add - yes to the major narrative ( ... )

I loved the mirror-reflection you hold up to the tropes and then proceeded to break them the FRAK down, and yes, BSG is very good for that.
Yeah, it's one of the things the show does best. When BSG falls down on the execution, it's almost always because it didn't quite commit to the deconstruction. It was always a little too afraid to stick the landing.

hee! ♥
The show was always at it best when it showed all the characters and their frak-ups AND successes and growth as a product of their individual identities and choices as well as their interactions with other characters.
Yes, exactly. It falls apart when it decides that recognizing that agency can't possibly coexist with a shocking! conclusion! and whips the rug out from under it.
It's a trend I've noticed about my favorite characters - that they make their own choices and own up to them even when they are mistakes
You're going to love the Buffyverse. Love it.

UGH YES UGH. TEAM FREE WILL, BASICALLY.
I actually have 0 feels about these two, but I love reading your thoughts! And I agree with you on the wrongness and worst aspect of them: their relationship is really fascinatingly constructed!

ha, yeah. I remember being really baffled when I started catching up on the fandom and reading about how all their drama was about the show trying to impede the ship? I don't know, maybe that was the original intent, but that's not what happened. What happened was a not-boring relationship that actually respected the integrity and development of both characters and their individual narratives. I have a few concerns about the handling of Kara's and Lee's separate arcs, but Kara/Lee was something special and extremely interesting.

Then Lee went off the rails and I was, in retrospect, doomed to love him forever, which probably had something to do with my change of heart. (I also do Character Love wrong, but that's a whole other thing.)

As per the ship, though, I think the turnaround moment for me was Scar. The best Kara/Lee scene, or THE BEST Kara/Lee scene?
THE BEST KARA/LEE SCENE. omg, the whole back half of S2 + S3 is dynamite for these life-ruiners.
BSG is post-apocalyptic. It's about the tragedy and drama of picking up the pieces after the conventional story has been told. So of course at least one of its central romances should pick up after the Big Event. Moore, you magnificent fucking troll.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH SO MUCH HATE/LOVE.
In the hypothetical conventional romance I thought I was getting with them, it would have been relationship or identity for one or both of them, because if it doesn't consume you, dear, it isn't really love.TROLOLOLOLOL indeed. I will always go for ( ... )

DYNAMITE. Because they are at their life-ruining worst there, and they still keep finding each other. And I think there ends up being this radical acceptance between them which melts my horrible little heart.
I'm sure you'll make it up soon enough.
lol. I HOPE.
